Story: Royal Caribbean takes financial hit from Cuba ban So the Trump administration strikes again: out of the blue, trips to Cuba are banned. The cruise world, I assume, was not consulted, so the cruise companies have to revamp their itineraries and take a financial hit. We in the travel sector are at the mercy of political shenanigans that affect the world. Such a shame, but nevertheless we take things on the chin and work around it. Presidents, prime ministers and dictators come and go. Cuba will be back. Patrick Doyle

Story: Investigation into MSC ship crash in Venice ‘taking longer than expected’ It appears that MSC Cruises is behaving very decently towards its passengers involved in this sailing. And that would give me confidence about booking with MSC in future. David Tarsh

/ The best of your letters, comments and social media this week On the Beach: Competition is good for the industry

Story: On the Beach blasted for ‘shady’ marketing tactics Online travel agents do this so people find their websites when searching on Google and advise it’s often cheaper booking through them rather than one of the so-called ‘big boys’. As for Mr Josephides saying we don’t want a price war in the industry, well, it’s been happening for

years. Many passengers want to go on holiday for the cheapest price. I’d also like him to point out where On the Beach ‘criticises’ Tui? If he reads the page, it says: “You’ll get the same amazing range of hotels, flights and extras to choose from – but often you’ll find these same holidays at cheaper prices.” Competition is good for the industry and never hurts anyone.
