Firm to offer fams to agents who ‘change the most lives’
A
gents saw first-hand how their G Adventures bookings make a difference to local
communities in the destinations their customers visit. Fourteen top bookers from the
UK were among 127 global trade professionals to atend the summit in Peru, where they toured Lima, Cusco and the Sacred Valley, and went on a day trip to Machu Picchu. Te final day included a walking
tour of Cusco and the Change Makers Summit presentations, where agents found out more about the operator’s not-for-profit partner
Planeterra and heard a keynote speech by founder Bruce Poon Tip, who answered delegates’ questions. Jade Snedeker, a travel expert
at STA Travel in London, said: “I loved the community visits. It’s great to learn more about G Adventures and see everything we have contributed towards in practice. I had no idea what to expect and it’s great to see what customers are experiencing.” David Green, vice-president of
commercial at G Adventures, said: “Tis summit is about celebrating with the agents who have changed the most lives during our incentive campaign. We wanted to make this
more than just an educational, we wanted to make it a life-changing experience for everyone and a lot of fun along the way.” Green confirmed the event would
be held again next year, with further details to be confirmed in July. “Our categories for winning a
place are linked to the numbers of lives changed, wildcard spots and social submissions linked to our core values,” he said. “To be in with a chance of winning a place, all we ask is that you consider G Adventures as an option when consulting with your clients, and if they don’t travel with us, then hopefully they will travel like us.”
G Adventures travellers give community a $200,000 boost
Travellers on G Adventures tours have helped a community in Peru’s Sacred Valley generate more than $200,000 in income in the past year. Agents, including 14 from the
UK, visited community projects in Ccaccaccollo, Cuyo Chico and Huchuy Qosqo including the Parwa Community Restaurant.
Joel Callañaupa, the operator’s
programme manager for Latin America and the Carribbean, helps implement projects. He said: “G Adventures brings more than 12,000 travellers to Huchuy Qosqo each year, and last year the community made $200,000 from their visitors.”
Te community has reinvested
the money from tourism back into the restaurant since the project began in 2015. Callañaupa added: “We help
customise the experience for travellers as local communities oſten don’t know how to provide that.”

Page & Moy relaunch delayed until next year
Te relaunch of heritage travel brand Page & Moy has been pushed back to 2020. Page & Moy was acquired
in 2017 by G Touring and last year, owner Bruce Poon Tip said it would be relaunched “within a year”. But at the Change Makers
Summit, he told Travel Weekly: “We were ready for a big launch this September and we’ve done a ton of work on a new and exciting programme for Page & Moy, but we’ve pushed it back because of the issues that the market is having with Brexit. It’s not a good time to launch a product.” Te operator made the
decision to delay the launch in March, citing a “Brexit freeze of the customer”. Poon Tip said: “We’ve seen
a huge bounce-back in business, so we pushed the relaunch back to 2020. It’s a fluid situation right now and we’re just looking for the right time for the market to come back and we’ve seen really great signs over the last six weeks.”
