DOUBLE S TRAVEL 118 TALBOT ROAD, ROUND GREEN
IMPRESSION: This shop was clean but the posters were unimaginative – although the offers were enticing. The employee was casually dressed but well presented.
SERVICE: An agent served me as soon as I walked in, but did not ask many questions. I was told that all the destinations were relatively quiet and were more suited to honeymooners than young people, although Mauritius was the liveliest of the three destinations I mentioned. I was told that August onwards would be the best time to visit, as it would avoid the monsoon season. No attempt was made to close the sale and no additional products were offered.
QUOTES: I was given two quotes for a 10-night holiday in Mauritius with Beachcomber Tours, flying from Heathrow with Air Mauritius. We would be staying at the Shandrani Beachcomber Resort & Spa, on an all-inclusive basis in a Superior room, with minibus transfers. The cost would be £6,288 in August or £4,496 in September, bringing it within budget. I felt the recommendation would have suited my requirements.
OVERALL: The agent was pleasant and pointed out that the Indian Ocean destinations were quiet. But the shopper felt the agent could have asked more questions and shown more enthusiasm.

BM TRAVEL CENTRE 13 THE ARCADE, LEAGRAVE ROAD
IMPRESSION: The windows were clean but there were letters missing from the sign, which looked scruffy. The window displays were generic holiday pictures and seemed a little tired. The agent was casually dressed but quite smart.
SERVICE: I spoke to an agent immediately but they did not seem particularly interested. They didn’t ask many questions, so I had to volunteer information. The agent took my email address and phone number but didn’t ask my name. They said they would research holidays and email quotes. I received one but had to ask for a second. The agent made no attempt to secure a booking nor to offer any ancillary products.
QUOTES: Both were for seven-night holidays in October flying from Heathrow. The first was for an all-inclusive stay at The Ravenala Attitude in Mauritius, flying with Air Mauritius, for £3,840, including transfers. An upgrade to the executive seafront adult suite would increase the cost to £4,370. The second option was for a half-board holiday at the Kempinski Seychelles Resort, flying with British Airways, for £5,060, including transfers. The agent said neither resort was lively.
OVERALL: The agent was polite but unenthusiastic, and the shopper didn’t feel their custom was valued.
