Spanish historical theme park to open this summer

Work has started on a historical theme park due to open in Spain this year following the success of the Puy du Fou park in France.
Puy du Fou Espana, aimed at
the family market, will initially open this summer as a night-time spectacular show, with seating for 4,000 visitors, before developing the rest of its 30-hectare ‘Grand Park’ for 2021. This main park will feature four 30-minute shows, including one open-air performance, for between 2,000 and 4,000 spectators each. Three period villages will
be built in the park: a large medieval Castilian village featuring restaurants, shops and craftspeople; a Moorish-style period village; and an artisan village. Restaurants will cater for 5,000 expected visitors a day. Building work began last week
at the site in Toledo, a city about an hour’s drive from Madrid and whose historic centre is itself a

Queen and Elvis take centre stage at Haven coast parks
New evening shows will make their debut at Haven’s coastal holiday parks in March. The new entertainment at parks Craig Tara, Devon Cliffs, Hafan y Môr, Primrose Valley and Rockley Park will include Bat of out Bohemia, which tells the story of rock band Queen and is inspired by the Bat out of Hell musical, and Elvis-inspired musical If I Can Dream. A four-night Haven break starts at £79 for a family of up to four at Devon Cliffs, arriving on March 11.

du Fou Espana features historical re-enactments and acrobatic perfor- mances instead of traditional rides. From August 30, the park will
offer one 70-minute outdoor night-time show with 185 actors covering 1,500 years of Spanish history. The El Sueno de Toledo show will have seating for 4,000 people and use special effects to illustrate a story about a young washerwoman who is taken on a trip back in time to relive key
moments in Spain’s history. A similar large-scale show, La Cinéscénie, runs at the original Puy Du Fou theme park in France. The Spanish park is to be
developed in five phases by 2028 at a cost of €242 million. Tickets, which are
commissionable, go on sale on February 19 priced €24 for adults and children. Until the park’s website (

ROCKAWAY BAY: The Hard Rock Riviera Maya in Mexico has opened a water park with 23 slides and a wave machine. Called Rockaway Bay, the attraction includes high-speed slides for teenagers and adults. Other facilities include skateboarding, parkour and indoor dryland skiing and snowboarding. The resort’s Music Lab offers guests the chance to play an instrument or sing in a rock band before performing in front of a live audience. Thomas Cook offers seven nights at the resort from £3,945 per family, flying from Gatwick on May 16.

Pigs and pirates: Busch Gardens adds family events
Busch Gardens has added events aimed at families as part of its 60th anniversary schedule. The Tampa Bay park’s ‘Pirate pARR-ty’ takes place this month, its Sesame Street Safari weekends in May and October, and guests can dine with Peppa Pig in March. A 14-day three-park ticket to SeaWorld Orlando, Aquatica Orlando and Busch Gardens is available for the price of two parks for 2019 visits.
