Surprises Party

Shine

Cunard & P&O Cruises

Hundreds of agents will descend on a Worcestershire town next week to attend a mystery party thrown by P&O Cruises and Cunard. Harry Kemble reports

The first-ever Shine Surprises Party for travel agents will be themed around Phileas Fogg, the fictional adventurer and lead character in Jules Verne’s Around the World in 80 Days. P&O Cruises and Cunard are joining forces to host the party, which they say is the first event of its kind to be thrown for the travel trade. The aim is to thank agents

for their support of the lines’ trade loyalty programme, Shine Rewards Club, which has amassed more than 20,000 members across the two brands. The location of the event is being kept

strictly under wraps. The 300 agents who have so far secured a spot only know that they must travel to Kidderminster, in Worcestershire, via the vintage Severn Valley River at 4.30pm on April 11. After meeting at the train

station, agents will be driven to ‘Fogg’s house’ where the adventurer will be there to welcome them. The agents will be able to

explore his home and all the treasure he has brought back from his travels. They will then walk a short distance to the evening venue where they will have

dinner and watch live music by The Cuban Brothers. Alex Delamere-White, P&O Cruises’

vice-president of sales and marketing (left, top), said: “We have been intentionally coy about the details because we wanted to create mystery and excitement around the event. “This is going to be one of the biggest events for frontline agents. The aim is to say ‘thank you’.” Both Cunard and P&O Cruises

have seen huge levels of agent engagement since Shine Rewards Club launched in December 2017.

Cunard launched its own branded version of the club last November and 7,000 agents have already become members. Cunard sales director Gary Anslow (left,

bottom) said: “We now have access to agents that we previously did not have access to. More than 3,000 agents applied to be at the Shine Surprises Party – it will be fantastic and the agents will have a night like never before.” Delamere-White said the party

was a chance to relax and not think about training, adding: “This will be a night that will stay with them for a long time to come.”

The lines plan to throw a Shine Surprises

Party every year from now on. “Our goal is to make this the event of the year and create a buzz,” Delamere-White said.

Shine Surprises Party preview: ‘It’s going to be the party of the year!’

SOPHIE CLEMENTS, HAYS TRAVEL “I’m really privileged to have been invited to the Shine Surprises Party and I’m

looking forward to it. I’m not really sure what to expect – it’s all very secretive. Whatever P&O Cruises has in store, I know it's going to be the party of the year.”

CHRIS MAYHEW, FRED OLSEN TRAVEL “I was intrigued by the secrecy of the party – it made me not want to miss out. We’ve

tried looking up venues in the area as we are not really sure what to expect.”
