The SelfCookingCenter and VarioCookingCenter can offer all the facilities of a conventional kitchen along with internet-enabled functionality


ith just two appliances, a Rational Self- CookingCenter combi steamer and a Rational VarioCookingCenter multi- functional unit, a professional kitchen can prepare everything a modern menu demands. Independent researchers at Zurich University found that, by switching from conventional appliances to SelfCookingCen- ter and VarioCookingCenter units, a kitchen reduced energy consumption by 34% and water consumption by 53%. Moreover, the new kitchen appliances were able to produce more food from less space. Rational’s ConnectedCooking technology connects the SelfCookingCenter and Vario- CookingCenter to the internet, giving chefs the ability to monitor and control their Rational appliances remotely, on a computer or mobile device. They can change recipe programs, monitor cooking processes and download free software. Meanwhile, mainte- nance can check how the equipment is running from a smartphone or PC, and the system will automatically notify their desig- nated service partner if there is a problem.

Another recent innovation is Rational’s


Training and Resources app, which was devel- oped following feedback from customers. The app combines a vast array of training resources, such as videos demonstrating how to cook specific recipes or showing how to carry out day-to-day maintenance tasks, and a searchable database of dealers and service providers. The app is smartphone- friendly and can be used in the kitchen, making it an ideal tool for new starters or refresher training, as well as for learning about more advanced techniques.

Rational’s commitment to giving customers the best possible support – and helping them get the most out of their Rational appliance. “Training is central to our customer ser- vice,” says Simon Lohse, managing director of Rational UK. “As well as offering initial train- ing when a Rational appliance is installed, we run a variety of educational programmes, such as live cooking demonstrations, where cater- ers can see the products in action, and acade- mies, where chefs learn advanced techniques.”
