AdvancedLive remote fi re monitoring strengthens protection at University of West London
T
he University of West London (UWL) is benefi tting from enhanced fi re safety visibility
and streamlined system
management thanks to the integration of AdvancedLive across multiple campuses. Over the past three years, the University has undertaken a signifi cant investment programme to upgrade its fi re protection infrastructure. This included systematically replacing legacy MxPro 4 and Kentec systems with next-generation MxPro 5 panels, ensuring consistency across six campuses in West London and Oxford. Most recently, Ruskin College, now part of the University of West London, underwent a seamless upgrade across its historic Oxford estate, which includes fi ve main buildings such as the Rookery, fi rst constructed in 1913. Despite the complexity of integrating newer extensions like the Callaghan Library, the project was completed without disruption, thanks to the adaptability and fl exibility of the MxPro 5 platform.
quickly across complex buildings has been transformational.
AdvancedLive’s intuitive
dashboard and remote access capability allow fi re isolations, enablements and weekly testing to be managed digitally, eliminating unnecessary site visits and reducing both costs and carbon footprint. The system confi guration refl ects the unique requirements of each campus: •
With more than 27 Advanced panels installed across education, residential buildings,

now connected three of its main campuses to AdvancedLive, with plans to extend the platform further. Using map-based views, facilities teams and security staff gain a real- time overview of their fi re system estate, enabling faster incident response and more effi cient day-to-day management. For a large and dispersed organisation like UWL, the ability to locate alarms or faults

St Mary’s Road Campus operates 13 panels, with Apollo REACH wireless devices deployed within library pods and coincidence detection programmed across third-party systems.
Ruskin College Campus features six panels, each building confi gured with bespoke cause-and-effect strategies, all reporting to central security points.
Paragon House integrates four panels with phased evacuation and delays across its 12-storey tower block.

Krasi delivers 120 minutes fi re protection using Promat board encasement
As a highly experienced specialist contractor, Krasi Fire Protection Ltd carried out the precision installation of the Promat VERMICULUX®
-S board encasement system to protect the structural steel frame throughout an existing industrial building near Oxford; coordinating its efforts with the main contractor to help ensure the programme targets for the refurbishment were met. The Midlands based company has invested time and resources in having a large proportion of its operatives trained in the installation of the Promat systems, so that contracts can be completed in full compliance with relevant EN standards as well as site specifi c quality requirements. In the case of the 600 m2
facility, the scope of the works encompassed the protection of lift
shafts and staircases as well as the multiplicity of steel columns and beams. The 10-strong workforce installed a total of 950 m2
over the 12-week period of the project. The 20, 30 and 35 mm thick calcium silicate boards
were installed by screw fi xing them to steel angles, aligning and sealing the cut-to-size boards as necessary to guarantee the 120 minutes integrity will be achieved in an actual fi re emergency.
