Maintaining and improving professional competence, skills, abilities and knowledge
BRAND NEW CPD FROM LEVIAT
Leviat’s latest CPD seminar, ‘Considered Facade Solutions for Complex Applications’ helps specifi ers and building professionals understand the complex issues that can arise when designing masonry facades – crucial in order to keep control over the design process and to keep within budgeted construction costs.
On 21 November, Sara Dawes, one of the Regional Technical Sales Managers at Leviat, delves deeper into wall ties, damp proof coursing, large cavities, pier arrangements, as well as other slab zone components, and how they can impact the design of masonry support systems.

Marmox has organised two online presentations outlining the use of its recently launched Fireboard insulation. Marmox’s A1 rated Fireboard has been developed to tackle fi re hazards as well as to provide thermal and acoustic insulation in a variety of situations, all in one lightweight, easy-to-handle board. Led by Mark Bowman, Marmox’s Technical Manager, the two presentations will explain Marmox Fireboard’s technical benefi ts and discuss the properties needed to comply with fi re regulation and best practice. Hunter Douglas has launched a new CPD seminar, focusing on wood ceilings and wall systems. Approved by RIBA, ‘Why Wood? Advantages of Timber Ceilings & Walls’, is an interactive presentation that covers a host of project-specifi c solutions, including service integration and exterior applications. Among the subjects covered are: solid and veneer wood systems as part of the sustainability agenda in the workplace; how a real or veneer wood system can have a positive impact on the environment; and how wood keeps CO2
out of the
atmosphere and contributes to a healthy indoor climate.

held on Wednesday 28th February at 11.30, where Mark will lead participants through the subtle differences in insulation for each element and explain how Marmox Fireboard functions as an effective solution for acoustic insulation. Then on Wednesday 7th March, again at 11.30, Mark explores the ‘Building Envelope’, highlighting the best ways of incorporating external and internal wall insulation, in both new-build and retrofi t situations.

Marmox Fireboard can be installed across timber and steel frame constructions or direct onto masonry. Available in thicknesses of 20mm, 50mm and 100mm, Fireboards are rigid enough to be fi tted directly onto timber batons, while being easy to cut with a hand saw. Marmox Marketing Manager, Grant Terry, comments: “We have already had a lot of interest from the market in Fireboard, which utilises stone-wool for its core and the same waterproof honeycomb facing as Multiboard and hope that these presentations will help reach a wider audience. A key message is that when specifying any sort of insulation, it should be able absorb sound as well as offer fi re protection and our new Fireboard successfully does both.”
