Perfad 3950 Lubricity Additive for Synthetic Metalworking Fluids
This is a proprietary blend of lubricity additives, resulting in a product with unique multi-metal cutting performance characteristics.
Ask metalworking formulators what they would like from a synthetic formulation and they’ll usually say something like: • A synthetic with soluble oil performance • Improved aluminium performance • Multi-metal cutting • Low foaming • Good tramp oil rejection • Good bio-stability
Perfad 3950 is designed to meet all of these desires and customers that have developed formulations containing Perfad 3950 are experiencing unprecedented results.
Figure 4 shows the cutting efficiency performance of Perfad 3950 compared to 3 semi-synthetic formulations (S/S) and 2 PAG based synthetic formulations (Syn). The refractive index of the emulsions and solutions is shown in brackets, indicating the actives concentration in the fluid. Commercial S/S 1 has been used as the reference fluid.
Perfad 3950 outperforms all the fluids tested on both Al 6061 and St 1018 by a substantial margin and at a much lower treat-rate.
Perfad 3950 provides outstanding lubrication on both aluminium and steel alloys. Further work to understand the suitability of Perfad 3950 in machining more exotic alloys is underway.
Whilst bench testing demonstrates the potential of a metalworking fluid, the real test comes in the field, and it is proving to be a real achiever.
One customer recently commented that his end user had seen tool-life increase by a factor of 2.5, and had been able to increase machining speeds so that his output is now double the output when using his previous metalworking fluid.
A second end user reported an increase in tool-life from having to change the tool once per week to not having changed the tool during the last five months. In addition, the end user had not experienced any significant bacterial growth during the five months since they’d changed coolant.
The clear benefits to the end users are proving to be higher output at reduced cost, extended tool-life and easier to maintain coolant systems.

launches new lubricant for diesel engines
Q8Oils has reacted to its customers demand for a high performance but cost effective low SAPS commercial oil with the launch of Q8 T904 10W-40.
Q8 T904 10W-40 has been developed due to new technology from one of Q8Oils’ additive suppliers, which has allowed Q8Oils to develop a cost effective low SAPS commercial engine oil that covers both ACEA E6 and E7 applications. The oil has been designed for EURO 4 and 5 diesel engines equipped with a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) or catalytic after treatment systems,

operating on low sulphur diesel fuel whilst under severe heavy-duty conditions.
The benefits of the newly launched oil include minimised DPF plugging, protection for catalytic after treatment systems, excellent protection against bore polishing and cam wear, prolonged oil drain intervals and reduced maintenance costs. The product provides quick lubrication after cold starting thus limiting engine wear and engine fouling due to the reduction of combustion soot.
