Q80ILS AHEAD OF THE GAME WITH DEVELOPMENT OF LOW SAPS EURO 4 ENGINE OIL


Q8Oils is ahead of the game in announcing the development of a new high performance diesel engine oil specifically designed to meet the challenges faced by Euro 4 diesel truck engines.


Q8 T 900 is a synthetic, high performance, heavy- duty diesel engine oil with low sulphated ash, phosphorous and sulphur (SAPS) content. In common with the other engine lubricants in the Q8Oils range, Q8 T 900 provides excellent protection against bore polishing and cam wear in addition to rapid lubrication on cold starting and outstanding high temperature durability.


The low SAPS content of Q8 T 900 is geared towards the extremely low particulate emissions levels required for Euro 4. With the majority of engine manufacturers already adopting some form of emissions after treatment system in order to meet the required NOx and particulate emissions levels, the new Q80ils product has been designed to protect catalytic after treatment systems and minimise debris build-up in diesel particulate filters.


Protecting and minimising particulate blockage of these systems helps to minimise maintenance costs by reducing the frequency of filter cleaning or unit replacement. As the cost of replacing a diesel particulate filter or selective catalytic reduction unit is in the region of £1300 savings can be considerable. Energy Consultancy Warns of Effects of Rising Energy Prices on Business Community International utilities specialist McKinnon & Clarke has warned that rising energy prices could mean that some SMEs could be forced into closure.


Escalating prices in the energy market mean that many businesses now have no option but to source a new supplier and renegotiate their contracts. Some will inevitably find it difficult to cope with the increased expenditure in this area, however others could end up facing closure as a result. Energy Consultancy, McKinnon & Clarke, says that firms need to take action to safeguard their business.


Managing Director Simon Northrop explains:“There are two main issues that need to be addressed. One is rising costs for utilities and the other, just as importantly, is energy efficiency. Many businesses delay the signing of contracts for electricity and gas, business, but could find that prices will continue to rise and, what may have been a small increase in their bills, could escalate into a huge increase in a matter of months.


“This can be a tricky situation to negotiate as prices are


rising and consumers are confused about how to react. The price rises could potentially have a devastating impact on small to medium enterprises that do not have the flexibility in their budgets to cope with this type of change.”

Although specifically formulated for Euro 4 engine units, Q8 T 900 is in fact ideal for anyone currently operating trucks with Euro 3 engines with a diesel particulate filter (DPF). The product’s low sulphated ash content helps keep the DPF unit free of ash deposits, a problem that would occur with non low SAPS engine lubricants, causing reduced filter life and increased fuel consumption.


For engine units fitted with a DPF, Q8 T 900 will help prevent filter clogging and thereby reduce maintenance and fuel costs. This is in addition to providing the benefits of being able to run to the engine manufacturers’ extended oil drain schedules.


The first Euro 4 - powered trucks are due to roll off the production lines later this year. Euro 4 comes into force in October 2005 with a deadline of October 2006 for all new trucks over 3.5 tonnes to be fitted with Euro 4 engines. Q8 T 900 has achieved universal OEM and industry specification


standards. These include ACEA E6-04, MAN 3477, MAN M3277 for CRT, Mercedes Benz 228.51, DAF HP-2 and Renault VI RXD with Scania LDF and Volvo VDS-3 pending.

METALFORMING MACHINERY MAKERS ASSOCIATION COUNCIL MEMBER CHANGES


Following the 2004 AGM the Metalforming Machinery Makers’ Association (MMMA) has elected three new council members and accepted the retirement of long standing Council Members Bill Hare, Managing Director of P.J. Hare Ltd, the Bristol based press manufacturer and Terry Hardy of Keeton Sons & Company Ltd, the Sheffield based shearing and press brake manufacturer.


The MMMA which acts as the central organisation promoting the common interests of its members involved in the manufacture and sale of metalforming machinery and ancillary products, including tooling in the United Kingdom always continues to seek new Council Members to represent their Companies.


Roger Smith representing ASC UK Ltd and Chris Ward representing Atkin Automation Ltd have been elected along with John Thatcher, the Managing Director of PJ Hare Ltd
