Synthetic Lubricants Development & Applications Technologist Salary: £23,000 - £25,000 p.a.


An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a global team dedicated to the development, formulation and performance testing of synthetic lubricants.


As part of Cognis’ UK-based Technical Group, you will be responsible for providing laboratory-based practical formulation and testing support for market promotion of existing products and new product/concept developments within Cognis’ industrial lubricants business.


You will ideally be qualified to degree level or equivalent in a science-based subject and have a minimum of 3 years’

relevant experience in the formulation and testing of industrial lubricants in a commercially driven environment.


A working knowledge of internationally recognised lubricant standards will be beneficial and a proven track record of formulation and performance testing should be demonstrated. Additionally, you should possess the ability to effectively prioritise a demanding workflow to ensure timely project completion and high standards of reporting and communication.


MMMA TO CONTINUE SPONSORSHIP OF ISME SHEET METAL SKILLS COMPETITION 2005


Following the successful sponsorship of this year’s ISME (Institute of Sheet Metal Engineering) Sheet Metal Skills competition, The MMMA (Metalforming Machine Makers Association) will continue its support of the Competition in 2005 . Support from the MMMA has been given over a number of years and was enhanced in 2004 through the presentation of the new ’MMMA Trophy’ which is awarded to the entry in the Open Class which best demonstrates the use of metalforming machinery in the manufacture of the component..


The Trophy was awarded this year to David Petch, aged 17, a 2nd year apprentice at BAE Systems in Brough, Yorkshire. The Open class is open to competitors of all ages, the only stipulation being that the design must use sheet metal as the principal material. Previous entries have included a jewellery case, rugby ball, cars, musical instruments, tool boxes a football boot, a horse’s head and a bobsleigh.


The competition is organised in association with Jaguar Cars Ltd and Radshape Sheet Metal Limited for young artisans and engineers from the Sheet Metal Industry measuring their skills against others in the industry.
