Rosie Beaumont-Thomas Waterstones


Rosie manages the on- and off-site events for Waterstones Gower Street, and was awarded 2018 Publishers’ Publicity Circle Events Manager of the Year. Rosie co-founded The Feminist Book Society and literary film salon The Bluestocking Club. Prior to Waterstones, she worked at Four Colman Getty.

John Bond whitefox


John is c.e.o. and co-founder of whitefox, a full-service creative agency that helps writers, publishers and brands make books. Before launching in 2012, he had been marketing director at Penguin and on HarperCollins’ board as group sales and marketing director. This year, whitefox opened an LA-based office.


Carol Boswarthack Barbican & Community Libraries


Carol has spent more than 40 years working in London’s public libraries. She is a past president of London Libraries and currently represents this group on the national Libraries Connected Universal Offers Books and Reading Group. Carol is a passionate advocate for public libraries and the power of reading.


Darren Buffonge Frank Lavine Group


In 2015, Darren founded the Frank Lavine Group, which he now runs full- time. As a manager and agent, he currently has an eclectic roster of talented clients across the sports and music industry and consciously keeps the number of clients he takes on low to ensure that the quality of service is always high.


Dave Buonaguidi Unltd-Inc


Dave has worked in advertising for over 35 years, co-founding St Luke’s, Karmarama and, most recently, Unltd-Inc. In 2014, he rediscovered his love for screen printing and he is now a respected artist. In 2003 he created the iconic “Make Tea Not War” poster for the anti-war march, which is part of the collection at the V&A.


Natalie Butlin Bookouture


After a year in marketing at Bookouture, Natalie became a commissioning editor, and published bestsellers such as The Little French Guesthouse, Bad Little Girl and The Summer House. Subsequently, she became commercial manager, using her experience to optimise live books to give each one the best chance of success.


Rose Cartwright Writer and creative director


Rose is a writer and creative director. She writes short films, short stories and screenplays and consults for brands on their identity, tone and story. She is the author of Pure, a memoir about her life with intrusive sexual thoughts. Pure became a Channel 4 drama series of the same name.


Jonathan Chocqueel-Mangan Pearson


Jonathan has a degree in systems engineering from the University of Bath, a master’s degree in organ- isational behaviour from Oxford University and HEC Paris and a doctor- ate from the University of Surrey.


Tom Clark De Gruyter


Tom is vice-president of global publishing at De Gruyter, responsible for worldwide publishing and product development teams at the Berlin- headquartered publishing house. Previously Tom held various publishing positions in the UK at Emerald Group, Wiley and Reed Elsevier.


Steve Connolly Hodder Education


Steve is group publishing director for digital and partnerships at Hodder Education. He’s spent 25 years in the industry in various commissioning and publishing roles. His recent focus has been the delivery of assessment platforms across the primary and secondary markets, and the develop- ment of online curriculum content services.


James Daunt Waterstones

James was named Barnes & Noble c.e.o. in August 2019. In addition, he also serves as managing direc- tor of Waterstones. He first


became a bookseller in 1990, with the open- ing of his eponymous bookstore in London. Daunt Books now has nine locations, mainly in London, and remains independently owned.


Rosamund de la Hey The Mainstreet Trading Company


Rosamund was formerly children’s marketing director at Bloomsbury; her role included launch- ing Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and working on the series for all seven books. In 2008, she and her husband launched The Mainstreet Trading Company. Rosamund was president of the BA from 2016–18.

Kathryn is managing director of the digital resources division at Bloomsbury, responsible for large-scale digital products for the academic library market. Prior to Bloomsbury, Kathryn was m.d. of Berg Publishers, which she joined in 1993, leading its management buyout in 2002, before selling the business to Bloomsbury in 2008.

Katie has been m.d. of Hachette division Orion since 2015. Prior to joining Orion, she worked as an editor and publisher at


HarperCollins and Penguin Random House. At HarperCollins she founded The Borough Press, and she has worked with writers including Tracy Chevalier, Lionel Shriver and Curtis Sittenfeld.
