Smith’s Christmas books are now an advent tradition for many families and here he brings cuteness, magic and menace (see the arresting illustration of Herr Drosselmeyer’s first appearance as an example) to the story of the Nutcracker. Only a sample was
available in time for this preview but this beautifully illustrated and packaged festive title, told in 24 and a half chapters, promises to be just as charming as Smith’s Winston series.
