paperback, zipped up into second place. Jill Tomlinson’s The Owl Who Was Afaid of the Dark was announced last week as the book the Duchess of Cambridge would read on CBeebies’ “Bedtime Stories”, and promptly jumped 604% week on week. With the segment airing on Sunday, no doubt next week’s charts will see the originally 1986-published classic boosted even further.

for around 8% of the market’s volume, Connolly has performed stunningly among his compa- triots—though this won’t come as a surprise to anyone who has followed the Scottish market for the past few years, or indeed, the Hardback Non-fiction charts at all. Connolly has been experiencing a golden run of sales with his recent titles, with 2019’s Tall Tales and Wee Stories cresting 300,000 copies sold—and notching up second place in Scotland’s chart for the year, with only the original Pinch of Nom cookbook selling more. While 2020’s Made in Scotland fell foul of the lockdown periods, during which Nielsen BookScan was unable to report sales data, Windswept & Interesting has soared even higher in sales over autumn 2021, becom- ing Connolly’s all-time bestseller through the TCM. Scotland’s sales were up 12%
in both volume and value for the non-lockdown weeks in 2021, compared to 2019. Last year Nielsen estimated 2020’s sales to be around 6% up for the 36 avail- able weeks, so growth seems to be continuing at a consistently high rate. It also grew marginally more than the market as a whole, which reported an 11% jump in volume and a 10% increase in value for the same period. Richard Osman’s The Thursday Murder Club repeated the trick
