s a writer for 23 years, Carrie Marshall is no stranger to puting pen to paper. She is also a broadcaster, co-hosting podcast “Scotish Women Inventing Music”, which aims to ensure women get a fair deal across the board in the Scotish music industry, and the frontwoman of rock band HARV. Carrie Kills a Man (404 Ink), however, is her first memoir. A self-confessed “compulsive oversharer”, she laugh- ingly describes her desire to write about her life as, in part, being motivated by being a journalist: “There was always this element where I’m thinking, ‘I’m really interesting’.” But this was not her sole inspiration. Carrie Kills a Man serves as a frank and fearless tour de force, writen in honour of her younger self. Born out of diaries she kept as she came out as transgender at the end of 2016, it traces the highs and lows of coming out, trans parenthood and ripping everything up and starting anew. Reflecting on her younger self, she observes: “I grew up in absolute ignorance about transgender people. I didn’t even know really what transgender people were, so it took a very, very long time to understand what was going on with me. So, there is this idea of trying to be the person
