3 EDITOR’S COMMENT
A NIGHT TO REMEMBER
efore I introduce this month’s big features, I wanted to take a moment to refl ect on last month’s kbbreview Retail & Design Awards.
Of course, I’m biased – frankly, so would you be if you saw the hard work that went into organising them, but I think anyone who’s ever been to one of these prestigious events will tell you that it is always a night to remember. For many reasons, though, this one felt even more special. After the rollercoaster of emotions, we’ve all been through over the past two years – both in our
work and personal lives – it was, fi rstly, just genuinely wonderful to be in a room full of actual people rather than at another ‘virtual’ get-together and secondly, it was a fantastic reminder of everyone who makes this industry so great.
Congratulations to all our fi nalists and worthy winners and a huge thank you to all our sponsors for making the kbbreview Retail & Design Awards 2021 so spectacular. If you couldn’t make the event yourself, check out the photo montage (pgs 42-43) to see what you missed. And, if you want to be part of next year’s celebration – which will take place on Monday, March 7, alongside the kbb Birmingham show – check out pages 60–61 for details on how to enter and book your seats and tables. Back to this issue and we’re focusing on two key areas this month. Firstly, as you’ll see from the cover, we’ve looked at the Government’s latest plan to revive the UK’s ailing high streets and, more importantly, what that means for you. Even if your showroom isn’t on a high street, investing in the local area can only have a positive effect on everyone. Check out our analysis on pages 28-30. We’ve also turned the spotlight on the smart home. Despite the well- documented rise of ‘smart’ products, many kitchen and bathroom retailers still don’t really know where to start in bringing everything together to create a connected-home solution, so we’ve spoken to experts from inside and outside the industry to help you on your journey – our focus starts on page 51.
