GOODBYE 2020 –
HELLO 2021!
his year may have been completely turned on its head and, thanks to the disruption caused by the Covid pandemic, things may not have gone quite to plan, but we have to look forward to starting afresh in 2021. And, let’s face it, there are plenty of reasons to be optimistic about the year ahead. A Covid vaccination is within reach and there’s a new president in the White House, which will have a profound effect on the world. Plus, no matter how hard the past seven months have been, this industry has actually come out of all this relatively unscathed.
And last, but by no means least, we’ve set a date – and booked a venue – for the 2021 kbbreview Retail & Design Awards. That’s right, we – and our fantastic sponsors – are hoping to actually see you all in the fl esh for the industry’s biggest awards ceremony on May 20 at St George’s Hall in Liverpool. Of course, we are all hoping that the live event goes ahead but, even if we are forced to run it as a virtual show, it is the perfect platform to celebrate how this industry has united, innovated and held strong against Covid-19. Entries are open, so what are you waiting for? Go to
kbbreview.com/awards for more details. So what’s in this month’s issue? We speak to Ralf Marohn (pgs 26-28), MD of Poggenpohl, about his plans to revitalise the brand after it was saved from bankruptcy by Chinese bathroom specialist Jomoo. We’ve also put training and education under the microscope (pgs 30-35). The message from the organisations driving this formal pathway is clear – if we want to raise standards and professionalism, it’s more important than ever to keep the conversation about education going. There’s also a really interesting retail story (pgs 48-50). Little did the Miller brothers know when they set up their kitchen company in Liverpool that the city would turn into one of the UK’s Covid hot spots. They explain the idea behind their business and how they’ve coped with the challenges of lockdown.
All that’s left to do now is to wish you all a Merry Christmas and let’s make 2021 a year to remember – but for good reason!
