Aerometals Adds Sikorsky S-70M Capability to EIBF STC


Aerometals recently announced the addition of the S-70M airframe to its recently approved FAA supplemental type certificate (STC) for engine inlet barrier filter (EIBF) protections. The company utilized exhaustive testing, high technology computational fluid dynamics modeling, as well as bird strike analysis for its new-generation engine protection system.


Benefits for the twin-engine Sikorsky S-70M include protection from erosion, foreign object damage (FOD), fouling and corrosion as well as a 96.8% airborne salt nuclei separation protection while operating in a salt-laden environment. No impact to ram air cooling, no airspeed correction charts, no parasitic drag and a fuel burn savings of up to 40 pounds per hour are ancillary benefits to the overall protection and safety capabilities of the EIBF.


The already proven and fielded system is based on the original new-generation S-92 EIBF developed, manufactured, and distributed by Aerometals. Additional model type airframes utilizing the advanced system include the H-60 and S-70. Constructed of metallic and Kevlar components, the result is negligible OML excursion and no pitot tube interference experienced with legacy systems for the H-60 airframe. On- demand filtration cleaning requirements also include an overall expected lifetime of up to 4500 hours.

GPMS Welcomes Wysong Enterprises to its Network of Certified Installation Partners


GPMS recently announced that it is adding Wysong Enterprises to its expanding network of certified installers.


“Wysong has outstanding capabilities in helicopter avionics, modifications, and maintenance, and we’ve seen their first-rate work installing the Foresight kit on aircraft owned by our mutual customer Tennessee Valley Authority,” said Jed Kalkstein, President of GPMS. “Although any qualified technician can install Foresight MX, respected partners like Wysong are a great resource for customers who choose not to install the kit themselves.”


Wysong has already completed installation on three Bell 429s and one Bell 407, and will work on an MD530.


“Wysong is excited to partner with GPMS,” said Wysong Director of Operations Paul Schreuder. “We think predictive helicopter monitoring is where this industry is heading, and we’ve been impressed by the high quality, light weight, and easy installation of the Foresight kit.”


Foresight MX is a next-generation predictive HUMS certified on a range of commercial aircraft, including the Bell 407, 212/412, and 429, as well as the Airbus H125/AS350 B3, and (soon) MD Helicopter’s 530F. Foresight’s onboard system gathers data in- flight and automatically offloads it postflight. The system offers vibration monitoring of engine and drivetrain components, rotor track and balance, and helicopter flight data monitoring with exceedance alerting.
