Members of the DHART team with awards received from the New England Helicopter Council and American Eurocopter for more than 16,000 hours of safe flight

Tewksbury, MA.

NEHC’s Safety Award recog nizes individuals and groups for excellence in rotorcraft avi ation safety and honors those who have displayed outstand

ing service on behalf of safety, whether for valor, profession alism or service above and beyond normal expectation. “DHART and Metro Aviation have earned this

award as a result of their inno vative operating practices and impeccable safety record,” said NEHC board member Scott Dodge. “The combina tion of Metro Aviation’s pro fessionalism and commitment to aviation safety and DHART’s expertise in emer gency medical care have cre ated and an industry leading collaboration in aeromedical transportation.”

DHART pilots use state of the art tools, such as night vision goggles, weather radar and GPS to fly special instru ment approach procedures to hospitals when visibility may be limited. Aircraft are dis patched using a realtime,

satellitebased, tracking sys tem. The air medical staff and helicopter mechanics are highly experienced profes sionals who regularly partici pate in rigorous professional continuing education. To further enhance safety, DHART is currently developing special Helicopter Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) approaches and fullyintegrated connect ing routes to 30 hospitals in New Hampshire and Vermont. This firstintheworld project will allow DHART helicopters to respond safely, even in some challenging weather conditions. ◆
