NORTH Flight Data Systems Receives FAA STC for the EC155 Helicopter LARS System
NORTH Flight Data Systems, LLC( NORTH FDS) is pleased to announce they have received FAA Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) approval for the installation of their Lightweight Aircraft Recording (LARS) system in the Eurocopter EC155 series heli copters. In cooperation with Metro Aviation, Inc., NORTH FDS integrated their voice, video and flight data recording system into the EC155B1 air frame. The system provides six channels of audio, one channel of video, and in excess of 200 separate parameters of record ed digital aircraft data. Metro Aviation, Inc. was selected to provide the com pletion services for the three EC155B1 airframes that will be

operated by the University of Michigan Health System air medical provider, Survival Flight. Metro Aviation is a longtime helicopter opera tions and completion provider with the main offices for the company located in Shreveport, Louisiana. The company operates almost 100 air medical aircraft around the United States. Located in Ann Arbor, Survival Flight has been providing critical care transport since 1983 when they initiated service as the first air medical provider in the state of Michigan. Jeff Warner, President of NORTH FDS said, “As a follow on to our successful integra tion into the EC135 fleet we are fortunate to have the cooperation of Metro Aviation and the University of Michigan to pursue the instal lation. Becker Avionics announced today that the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO), Florida, has selected the DVCS6100 digital airborne audio control panel system for its new Bell 407GX helicopter. The aircraft is currently being outfitted with a law enforcement completion package at Bell Helicopter’s facility in Piney Flats, Tennessee. The new Bell 407GX is equipped with the Garmin G1000H integrated glasspanel avionics system. The Becker DVCS6100 was chosen by the Palm Beach Aviation Unit due to its unique ability to effectively manage and control all audio sources in the aircraft. Becker’s Digital multichannel audio and inter com system, with its software configurable profiles, provides the flexibility to specifically customize the system to meet the demanding operational requirements of airborne Law Enforcement organizations. DHART Air Ambulance Service Honored For Safety Record
A justpublished study in the Journal of the American Medical Association shows that trauma patients trans ported to level 1 or level 2 trauma centers have better rates of survival when trans ported by helicopter than by ground ambulance. That’s not really news to members of the DartmouthHitchcock Advanced Response Team (DHART), which has been sav ing lives for nearly 20 years, and has now been honored for its longstanding commit ment to safety and patient service.
The New England Helicopter Council (NEHC) presented its 2012 Safety Award to DHART and its avia tion services provider, Metro Aviation, Inc., at the Council’s annual meeting on April 17 in
