Los Angeles Fire Department to Strengthen Emergency Response Capabilities with the Addition of a Fifth AW139 Helicopter


Leonardo recently announced that the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) is set to introduce a fifth AW139 intermediate twin-engine helicopter into its fleet. The aircraft is expected to be delivered from Leonardo’s Philadelphia facility in Spring 2019 and will be used to perform a range of missions primarily including fire suppression, emergency medical service (EMS) and search and rescue (SAR).

HAI recently announced the 2019 Salute to Excellence


Award Winners. The six Salute to Excellence Award categories honor those pilots, maintenance technicians, operators, safety professionals, and others who have demonstrated a commitment to excellence that has enriched our industry. The awards will be presented at the Salute to Excellence Awards luncheon during HAI HELI-EXPO 2019.


Andy Hermansky of TEMSCO has been awarded the Pilot of the Year Award presented by Appareo. It recognizes an outstanding single feat performed by a helicopter pilot during the year or extraordinary professionalism over a period of time.


Dewitte Binkley of SureFlight LLC has been awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award presented by Bell Flight. It salutes excellence in management and leadership.

Marty Wright of the Bell Training Academy has been awarded the W.A. “Dub” Blessing Flight Instructor of the Year Award. It recognizes superlative contributions by a helicopter flight instructor in upholding high standards of excellence.
