News Love Laundry Award 2024 winners unveiled

WASHCO has unveiled this year’s Love Laundry Awards winners.

Winner of the 2024 Care Home Group

Award is Bupa Care Services UK for its commitment to providing a high-quality laundry service to its diverse range of residents.

It aims to be net zero by 2040 via an

accelerated investment plan to replace all gas laundry appliances with smart appliances and innovative dosing equipment by mid-2025. The 2024 Laundry Team Award went to Caldy Manor Residential Home for demonstrating outstanding practices, fantastic communication, and exceptional relationships with residents. Hannah Roberts, general manager, said:

“To have won this award is just fantastic. The team made up of Hanna, Fiona, and Tiffany work so hard day in and day out and even though they are a valued part of the care home they have been overwhelmed to have been acknowledged in this way and to win an award! To say they were speechless is an understatement! They have worked tirelessly to make sure that everything they do is for the residents’ quality of life, to make sure that the resident feels comfortable, loved and safe in their home. The three of them are an inspiration and the home couldn’t run without them. It truly is wonderful that they have won this award as they really deserve this and we are all very grateful to the Love Laundry Awards for this honour. Thank you!” The winner of the 2024 Laundry Hero

Award is Kirsty Gladwish from Lime Tree House, Southcare Homes, who was recognised for going above and beyond her regular duties by involving a resident living with dementia in laundry tasks, providing them with a sense of purpose and contributing to their mental wellbeing. Southcare Homes Proprietor Karim Manji said: “We are delighted that Kirsty is recognised for her exemplary service and dedication at Lime Tree House. She is a truly exceptional individual.”

Horsham home unveils new extension

A Horsham care home has doubled in size following an innovative building project that has taken it from 26 bedrooms to 54. Glen Arun Care Home worked with Sussex-

based building experts Pilbeam Construction to transform its premises and increase capacity. The new extension was built on under-utilised land at the rear of the building and includes new bathrooms and even a hair salon.

The project was completed without residents having to move out and without the home needing to close. Glen Arun home manager Neema Clinton said: “There is strong demand for residential care in this area and it was important for Glen Arun to increase capacity to meet that local need. We are very happy with how Pilbeam Construction tackled the project for us, delivering new rooms and new facilities that will be a big asset to us and to the people who stay with us. For it all to be delivered without the need for the home to close at any stage is a tribute to everyone involved.” Bill Musa, site manager at Pilbeam

Construction, said: “We are delighted to complete this challenging project at Glen Arun which has doubled the capacity by building an extension from the ground up. It means more rooms for local people who are looking for a care home in Sussex, better facilities for current residents and financial security for the home’s owners. The biggest challenge for us was to complete the work without Glen Arun having to close and without requiring residents to move out of their rooms. It’s a model that we think could help other care homes in the region to increase potential revenue in what everyone knows is a challenging market.”
