– and other landmarks, as well as the aforementioned Keymer tiles. In addition, one of the communal spaces at Keymer Hall – The Hillians Snug – is proudly named after the local football team, Burgess Hill Town FC, of which Keymer Hall is a very proud sponsor. The team points out that the colour scheme

used at Keymer Hall was chosen to reflect the surrounding woods and natural landscape, with an emphasis on earthy and woodland tones. This contrasts with, for example, the use of ‘seaside’ colours at Chartwell House on the Kent coast, and is just one way in which Keymer Hall feels like a unique space as opposed to simply being part of a group – something that Boutique is keen to emphasise not just through the design of the home, but also in its emphasis on Keymer Hall becoming a key part of the community. Arranged across four floors, Keymer Hall

consists of a residential ground floor (20 bedrooms), a ‘nostalgia’ floor (30 bedrooms, earmarked for dementia care), and a second floor which may find itself divided into two communities – one residential, one nostalgia – depending on future requirements (28 bedrooms). With 10 of these rooms across the

home being adjoining suites, Keymer Hall is registered for a capacity of 68 residents. Finally, the fourth floor is dedicated to back of house functions such as the kitchens and laundry, thus enabling the space on the residential floors to be maximised as well as minimising disruption and noise in the

residential areas themselves. Fees at Keymer Hall begin at £1,700 p/w,

rising depending on a resident’s needs. The home offers three styles of room – Classic, Premium, and Platinum – the latter boasting distinctive panelling behind the beds to emphasise a luxury, ‘platinum’ feel. All rooms feel spacious and very well appointed, with en suite bathrooms and plenty of storage. In addition, ten rooms offer couples moving into care the option of joint living, either by having two connecting bedrooms, or by dividing the space into a bedroom and adjoining lounge/dining room, depending on preference and/or need. Boutique has, for the time being at

least, decided against installing a safety monitoring solution in bedrooms. As far as Boutique is concerned, the jury is out on the effectiveness of such tech, particularly when balanced against the importance of resident privacy and independence – something the provider places great importance in – and as far as the team are concerned, there is simply no substitute for person centred care carried out by care staff – including, as required, nighttime checks. As far as the outdoors goes, ground floor

patios and an impressive six balconies offer residents access to – and views of – the landscaped gardens and woodland beyond. The home does indeed sit close to a train track; however, while I did see a few trains go by during my visit, the noise was absolutely minimal (in fact, with the windows closed, I could not hear the trains at all), and I found myself agreeing with the Boutique team that, far from being a downside, it is actually quite nice seeing the
