Interiors online conference Care home interior design consultant Jacqui Smith is to speak at the inaugural Virtual Interiors Event online conference that takes place on 24-25 February. Smith, managing director of Sussex-based
consultancy HomeSmith, will give a thought leadership session titled Healthcare Insider: Designing for Sensory & Cognitive Decline. Smith is an accredited member of the
Society of British & International Interior Design and sits on the SBID Healthcare Design Council. The Virtual Interiors Event will feature a
further 31 sessions. The sessions will cover a broad range of topics including New Approaches In The ‘Work From Anywhere’ Era, and Designing for Happiness: How Environments Can Improve Our Mental Wellbeing. The Virtual Interiors Event will also feature
four live rooms with 24 panellists and titles including Putting people first: The evolving challenges, and What Did 2020 Teach Us About The Role Of Technology In Commercial Interiors? Thought leadership will form a key part of
the agenda, with speakers such as HOK’s director of workplace Kay Sargent discussing
neurodiversity and social equity, TEDx speaker Ben Channon on designing for happiness and Element 4’s Georgia Elliott Smith. Also speaking will be workplace psychology
expert Craig Knight, Spacelab director Rosie Haslem and FX Designer of the Year 2017 Anna Hart. Sponsored by Chaucer Logistics, CMD and
Orangebox, the event features virtual exhibition stands from established manufacturers such as Vitra, KI Europe, Camira and Brunner alongside smaller firms such as faux leather producer Sileather UK. The Virtual Interiors Event uses an online

Belong set to feel at home with £15m
Wirral care village Belong has completed the purchase of land at Wirral Waters in Birkenhead to enable building work on a £15m care village to kick off later this year. Offering care and accommodation
for over 100 people, the riverside Belong Wirral will comprise six households with 24-hour nursing support and 34 one- and two-bedroom independent living apartments. The dementia-friendly village will
provide a vital hub at the heart of the Peel Land and Property’s Wirral Waters project, with a range of inclusive spaces and facilities accessible to the local community. The village’s household model is
conducive to effective infection control, with residents living in separate extended family sized groups, and Belong Wirral will incorporate new design features to support these measures based on learnings from Covid-19. This includes an array of outdoor
spaces, such as balconies for each household and a roof garden. The wider community will have access
to Belong’s award-winning home care service, Belong at Home, in addition to support and advice from its dementia specialist Admiral Nurse team. The village will also offer a vibrant setting
Glenholme Wrightcare has been given the green light by Preston City Council to build a 64-bed care home and 16 supported living apartments in Ashton-on-Ribble. The three-storey care home is designed for residents with dementia and is laid
out in four ‘hubs’ with one per floor in each wing of the building to either side of the central entrance lobby. The home will provide a residents’ wellness suite and lounge, quiet rooms, cafés, a hairdresser, a shop and reception area. The planning consultant for development on the site of a former restaurant near the city’s docks is Smith & Love Planning Consultants, while the architect is IBI Group.
