P RODUCT S UV-C disinfection kills 99% of pathogens

Reported to kill coronavirus and 99% of all pathogens, STERIPRO UV-C Disinfection Technology can be used in operating rooms, hospital rooms, hallways and ambulances. Ultraviolet light in the germicidal wavelength – at around 254nm – renders the organisms sterile. Wavelengths in the UV-C range are

particularly damaging to cells because they are absorbed by proteins, RNA and DNA. Mercury vapor lamps radiate about 95 % of their energy at a wavelength of 253.7 nm, which is coincidentally so close to the DNA absorption peak (260-265nm) that it has a high germicidal effectiveness. Key benefits and features of the system

include: l 10-20 min disinfection cycle l Remotely operated via smart app l Real-time reports show the room has been thoroughly disinfected

l Automatic detection of correct disinfection time, depending on room size

l Automatically shuts down if the sensors detect movement in the room.

Automatic pressure infusor for fast action Loewenstein 4ChAdAug19_Hres.qxp_Loewenstein 2ChAdAug19_Hres 07/06/2019 09:59 Page 1

CENTRAL MEDICAL SUPPLIES (CMS) is the exclusive UK distributor for the Biegler Autopress automatic pressure infusor. Autopress can be used in conjunction with the Biegler blood and fluid warmers or as a stand-alone device wherever fluids have to be dispensed under constant pressure. The Biegler Autopress inflates to the designated pressure setting and continues to maintain this pressure as the fluid is administered. Mains or battery operated, the device is small, lightweight and fits on any IV pole. Pressure bags are required in emergency situations where there is a clinical need for a critically ill or injured patient to be quickly administered with a high volume of fluids. Pressure infusors are also used to pressurise bags used for invasive blood pressure monitoring in critical care areas. Standard bags require the inflation to be done manually using a large squeeze bulb. Due to the constant squeezing action required, the manual inflation of bags can result in healthcare

The Biegler Autopress infusor replaces the need for manual inflation and bag checking. It is easy to operate, due to the electronic pressure regulator, and provides a quick and accurate way of inflating bags to the required pressure.

THE ELISA FAMILY The future of intensive care ventilation

Device reduces risk of needlestick injury

professionals suffering from repetitive strain injuries (RSI). Manually inflating bags can be time consuming and also need to be checked periodically, to ensure the pressure is being maintained as the fluid is administered.

NEEDLEDOCK, a new start-up company, has launched its first product – the innovative ND5 sharps container, which reduces the risk of needle-stick injuries to healthcare staff at point-of-use. The device automatically removes hypodermic needles from syringes, single-handedly, and securely locks the dangerous sharps away in the tough, tamper- proof and spill-proof container below. The ND5 has a patented sprung opening which is smaller than the needle shank, offering maximum safety for medical professionals and patients. This overcomes the pitfalls of some traditional sharps bins that feature large openings, which can leave needles dangerously exposed. The ND5 only accepts hypodermic needles and can hold up to 600 needles. However, as it is extremely compact and safe, it can be positioned next to the patient’s bed on a trolley or carried around for added safety and convenience. Underneath the product is a stabilising base, which also enables the ND5 to be fixed to a worktop or wall bracket – while enabling quick and easy replenishment of fresh units.

The sharps container has been developed

by Bury St. Edmunds-based design manager and entrepreneur, Chris Stanton and Cambridge-based industrial designer, Paul Brown, in collaboration with a team of engineers, healthcare professionals and ergonomics experts. Production is being ramped up to meet demand during this year’s flu vaccination programme and the anticipated COVID-19 vaccination programme in 2021.
