IDSc preview
As part of IDSc’s work around the development of the Technical Bulletin, efforts are underway to move towards accredited registration of decontamination personnel with the Academy for Healthcare Science in line with other healthcare science practitioners.
having to develop their own protocol. IDSc 2024 will provide a platform for delegates and experts to exchange ideas on how we should evaluate innovations going forward. An important aspect of innovation and
emerging technologies is our ability to critically assess and analyse the benefits of new developments. During the conference the subject of Real World Evaluations (RWE) will be discussed and how this can support evidence developed from clinical trials on effectiveness. RWEs help service commissioners and innovators to understand the how, when, for whom, and why, an innovation has worked, or not, in real-world settings. Gathering this additional evidence helps clinicians to make better decisions about patient care and service leads make better decisions about how to run their services. A presentation will explore some of the common approaches to RWEs and how this can be applied to the medical device decontamination sector.
Key Performance Indicators: The issue of Key Performance Indicators and benchmarking will also be a topic covered in this year’s conference. What does high-performance in Medical Device Decontamination look like? What is the current view on the standard of Medical Device Decontamination Services in the UK and what will be the future demands be within this sector? This is likely to be an important issue as Decontamination Services will need to adapt and respond to the needs of the NHS in support of the clinical services.
Who should attend? All healthcare professionals that have day-to- day operational responsibilities for medical device decontamination are encouraged to attend the annual conference and exhibition. This includes Infection Prevention and Control, Endoscopy, Dental, Nursing and anyone that is involved in decontamination of medical devices. Together, the conference and exhibition will help delegates understand how the latest industry changes will affect them, how they can improve safety for patients, and how innovation could transform the decontamination sector. Attending IDSc 2024 also contributes towards
Continual Professional Development (CPD) and will help individuals evidence that they are updating their knowledge. Ultimately, this will enable departments to deliver a high quality, professional and safe service, which will benefit patients and healthcare providers alike. Exhibition: innovation in decontamination Decontamination technologies are rapidly evolving, and the decontamination sector needs to stay informed of the changes that these innovations will bring. By attending the IDSc 2024 exhibition, delegates can investigate the latest technologies and understand how these innovations may shape the way they work in the future. In particular, there are some exciting developments underway in the field of effective cleaning using a validated process – the hope is that these approaches will eliminate reliance on manual cleaning processes, which are subject to variation, human error, as well as potential health risks to decontamination professionals. Manual cleaning of internal channels of endoscopes, in particular, is known to be extremely challenging. But decontamination departments are also struggling with recruitment. The latest automated technologies could offer the potential to reduce the physical and time demands placed on decontamination staff. Digital technologies are also increasingly
integrating into the decontamination pathways – to ensure improved efficiency, capturing valuable data, and optimising processes. This trend is set to continue, and it is likely that we will see an increasing role for intelligent systems within decontamination departments. The exhibition will highlight a wide variety of solutions – both new and established – and a preview of some of these is shown on the pages that follow…
