Showcasing UK HealthTech at MEDICA
The UK’s HealthTech industry has been at the forefront of the fight against COVID-19 – and the sector experienced huge growth in recent years. The world-class talent and expertise of leading industry players will be showcased on the ABHI & DIT UK Pavilion at this year’s MEDICA Trade Fair. This month, CSJ spoke to head of international events at ABHI, Michelle Michelucci, who discusses the support available to UK HealthTech innovators looking to expand their business overseas.
The COVID-19 pandemic has caused a massive acceleration in the use of innovative health technologies, catalysing an already fast-growing sector. All over the world we have witnessed the vital role of technology – from pioneering mRNA vaccines to game- changing diagnostics and track and trace apps – in creating a better future and solving some of the more pressing challenges of our time. Impressively, the UK itself was third in the world for HealthTech investment raised
in 2020, behind only the US and China. In fact, the country is home to the largest number of digital health start-ups founded in Europe between 2010 and 2020. With a combined turnover of £24 billion, health technology in the UK is a resoundingly booming market. “Nevertheless, the environment in

As the UK’s leading industry association for health technology, the Association of British HealthTech Industries (ABHI) brings a wealth of regulatory expertise as well as international market access knowledge, supporting the industry to navigate change and increasing complexities, and helping them to grow and sustain their vital role to save and enhance lives, globally.
World’s largest medical trade show A key piece of ABHI’s work is to cultivate a positive environment that encourages growth for the sector – enabled through a comprehensive programme of international activity, which includes hosting UK Pavilions at some of the world’s largest health shows. Central to these is the world-leading MEDICA Trade Fair – renowned as the world’s largest event for the medical sector. “Our Pavilions offer an unrivalled platform for the finest industry players across UK HealthTech to benefit from a comprehensive package of expert guidance, advice and support, all geared to help them raise their international profile, showcase their
