Prime announced as Great Western Hospitals commercial developer partner

Prime has been appointed as the Commercial Developer Partner for Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust following a competitive tender process. The UK-based health and care

property developer, investment manager, and operator, says the partnership will ‘foster long- term collaboration focused on delivering a sustainable future for the hospital estate’, with a series of key developments set to get underway on a plot of land adjacent to the site, which the Trust purchased in 2021. Leighton Chumbley, Chief Executive at Prime, said: “While the NHS embodies the core principles of universal care, the challenges it faces are undeniable. Public-private partnerships offer a solution – not as a step toward privatisation, but as a collaborative effort to strengthen and support the NHS. By working together, institutional investors and healthcare providers can create lasting, positive change that reinforces the system’s capacity to serve future generations.”

expansion on the site. Prime says the new developments will ‘prioritise environmentally friendly practices’, incorporating renewable energy such as solar panels to decarbonise the site. Biodiversity enhancement will be supported through wildlife corridors and sustainable drainage, while transport connections will promote cycling, walking, and public transport use.

Julian Auckland-Lewis, director Prime and the Trust say

the partnership will deliver ‘a comprehensive masterplan of future developments, shaping the Trust’s future expansion with a focus on maximising the potential of the hospital’s estate’. The ‘outline vision’ draws on

the Trust’s successes in delivering improved and expanded facilities – such as the recently opened £34 m Emergency Department and £20 m Urgent Treatment Centre, which the two organisations say ‘showcases innovative architecture, using sustainable building techniques’, and is

Keeping mission-critical teams connected

Developer of secure

communication technologies, Multitone Electronics, describes its new Multitone Nucleus system as ‘a truly revolutionary collaboration platform designed to transform communication across industries, including healthcare, public safety, and logistics’. The system is said to ‘embrace

robust real-time messaging features designed to keep mission-critical teams connected at all times – wherever they are’. Multitone Electronics said: “In

every atom, the nucleus is the core of energy, connection, and strength – the perfect inspiration for the new solution. Multitone Nucleus serves as a critical systems hub, empowering organisations to break down barriers, connect seamlessly, and respond effectively in time-

critical situations. For example, in industries such as healthcare and the emergency services, it delivers: n Real-time messaging for instant updates;

n Secure, cloud-optimised integration, and

n Seamless collaboration across teams and locations.”

Dave Bond (pictured), Multitone’s head of R&D, said: “Multitone is delighted to introduce Multitone Nucleus – a reliable and secure platform built to simplify and enhance communication for organisations where every second counts. Nucleus is not just another communication tool; it’s a powerful platform designed to simplify collaboration, break down barriers, and empower teams to work smarter, faster, and more effectively through information sharing, using cutting- edge technology for maximum reliability.”

‘in harmony with the existing hospital infrastructure’.

Initial plans centre on moving non- patient-facing activities out of the main hospital building, freeing up critical space for patient care, and integrating the expansion land with the existing site. The partnership will also seek to develop an on-site staff and student accommodation facility, and deliver a new sterile services unit, and a new private healthcare facility. The development of the expansion land will provide the space and infrastructure for further healthcare developments and service

for the Trust’s Capital Development Programme, said: “We are excited to be working with Prime on the next phase of our Way Forward Programme, which seeks to create a hospital environment fit for the growing needs of residents in Swindon and the surrounding areas. “Following our new Emergency

Department’s opening late last year, our focus now turns to three key projects we hope to get underway this year on the 5.5 hectare site adjacent to the hospital, and we know the expertise and resource Prime will bring will help us accelerate this work.”

New cancer support centre in North Wales ‘tops out’

A new cancer support centre being built in the grounds of Glan Clwyd Hospital in Bodelwyddan, Denbighshire in North Wales has celebrated its ‘topping out’ – with the nailing of a ceremonial bough to the roof. The Maggie’s Centre is being commissioned, designed, and funded, by the Steve Morgan Foundation, which has provided £4 m to build it, having already commissioned, designed, built, and funded, Maggie’s Wirral, which officially opened in the grounds of Clatterbridge Cancer Centre in September 2021. A third Maggie’s centre, in Liverpool – to be built within the grounds of the New Royal Liverpool Hospital, is also in development thanks to the Foundation. Dame Laura Lee, Chief Executive of Maggie’s, said: “We’re delighted that our North Wales centre has ‘topped out’. Without the Steve

Morgan Foundation’s incredibly generous support in commissioning, designing, building, and funding, we wouldn’t have been able to bring Maggie’s to North Wales, and for that I am so grateful. The Foundation has committed to building three new Maggie’s centres – including the one in North Wales – a truly phenomenal act of philanthropy. I am greatly looking forward to continuing to work with the Steve Morgan Foundation, and Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, to open our new centre later this year.” Founded in 2001 by businessman and philanthropist, Steve Morgan CBE, the Steve Morgan Foundation provides funding, support, expertise, and best practice, to the charities and other organisations it supports.
