IHEEM’s West Midlands Branch votes in new Chair and Vice-Chair

IHEEM is pleased to announce that Steve Lawley will succeed Phil Wade as the Chair of West Midlands Branch. The Institute said: “Our extended thanks

go to Phil, who has been the driving force behind a highly active branch for many years. Joining Steve as Vice-Chair going forwards will be Andrew Rodgers.” Steve Lawley has worked in the healthcare sector for the last 23 years in various estates and facilities roles – from Fire and Security Manager to Deputy National Lead for Capital and Commercial for NHS England Estates. Prior to joining the NHS, he worked in the private sector for a number of large fire, nurse call, and security systems companies, in roles ranging from engineer to National Technical Manager. He says his time in the NHS provided him with the opportunity to work with ‘lots of brilliant and knowledgeable people’, who provided him with a space to learn and work with them, and to increase his knowledge outside of engineering into land and property, PFI contract management, and commercial. Steve’s current role is as Project Director for the Cabinet Office Infrastructure Projects Authority in the PFI Centre of Excellence, where he continues to work closely on healthcare projects with NHS England and the Department of Health and Social Care, and to develop guidance for use across multiple departments.

Head of Infrastructure role Andrew Rodgers has worked in the healthcare sector for the last 14 years in various roles in Estates Departments – from New Small Works Manager, to Electrical Manager, and Deputy and Head of Estates, to his current role as Head of Infrastructure at Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust. Before moving into the healthcare sector, he worked in the private sector for a number of electrical contracting companies in roles ranging from Apprentice (time served) to Electrician, Supervisor, Design Engineer, and Project Manager. It was only when he joined the healthcare sector that he finally found the industry he wanted to work in, and he takes great pride in working for the NHS, and doing whatever he can to improve things. Andrew said: “The NHS has given me almost unlimited training and career progression opportunities, leading me to

my current role and my highest academic award, the BSC (Hons) in Management of Healthcare Engineering Technologies and Facilities Management. I am passionate that everybody receives the same opportunities I have been offered to develop themselves personally.”

A well-run and positive Branch Of the Chair and Vice-Chair partnership commencing at West Midlands Branch, Steve Lawley said: “I am really excited to be working alongside Andrew Rogers to lead going forward in 2024/25, and extremely lucky to take over a well-run and positive branch from Phil Wade. We are ambitious to grow membership in the region from all areas – including from FM companies – to increase knowledge in healthcare, and from the wider supply chain in the region, as we want to support our members with CPD and latest technology awareness. We are keen to achieve a balance between engineering and estate management on the agenda for all of our meetings, to maximise our reach to members.” The Branch has recently undertaken

a survey of both members and non- members, and will utilise the findings to develop its business plan for 2024/25, running from this month to March 2025. To find out more about IHEEM membership, please see iheem.org.uk/ membership, or contact membership@ iheem.org.uk.
