Record attendance and many talking points at flagship event

IHEEM’s annual flagship event, Healthcare Estates, was back with a bang on 10 and 11 October 2023, with a record attendance of 5,754 healthcare industry professionals from across the public and private sectors – 29% up on the previous year – attending the largest ever edition of the event at the iconic Manchester Central. Attendees from as far north as

Aberdeen, and as far south as Plymouth, took advantage of the extensive programme of content, an industry- leading trade exhibition, and the many opportunities to network with colleagues old and new. Floor space had been increased by 25% on 2022 to accommodate a record 231 exhibitors – an 18% increase on the previous year – presenting exhibition visitors with more breadth and depth of coverage than ever. The larger floorplan also gave more room for attendees to circulate, take a break, and network. In all, 116 NHS Trusts and Health Boards

were represented, with many public health bodies across England, Scotland, and Wales sending multiple attendees, including NHSE, NHS Shared Business Services, NHS Wales, and NHS National Services Scotland. As ever, conference delegates were

able to benefit from a broad programme of content, with the MyIHEEM online CPD platform making it easy for IHEEM members to add conference sessions they attended to their CPD record via a QR code. The 2023 conference themes were: Health and Social Care Planning; Governance, Assurance and Compliance of the Healthcare Estates & Infrastructure; Implementing Digital Technology & Innovation into the Healthcare Estate; Medical Engineering & Healthcare Engineering, and Operational Delivery of the Healthcare Estate. With keynote speakers and a

conference stream covering each theme, and five theatres on the exhibition floor, the event offered a total of 61 hours of expert content. Keynote sessions were free for all attendees, and attracted audiences of up to 300. The conference sessions and exhibition theatre sessions

were also extremely popular, with visitors and delegates making the most of the learning opportunities available. The event closed with an address

from IFHE President, Steve Rees from Canada, and a talk by celebrity guest Perry McCarthy, the original ‘Stig’ from the BBC’s Top Gear, who entertained the audience with insights and anecdotes from his career in motor racing and broadcasting. As is now traditional, the Annual

Gala Dinner and Awards were held at the Kimpton Clocktower Hotel on the middle evening of the event. Over 600 industry professionals attended, enjoying an evening of great food and great company, with the after-dinner entertainment provided by TV personality and opera singer, Wynne Evans. Awards were presented by IHEEM in 12 fiercely contested categories, while a Lifetime Achievement Award went to Dr PL Yuen of IHEEM’s Hong Kong Branch. Feedback from attendees post-event has been overwhelmingly positive: 86% of delegates rated Healthcare Estates 2023 overall as ‘excellent’ or ‘good’, and 73% of attendees said they are likely to attend again in 2024. 88% of exhibitors surveyed rated the quality of enquiries to their stand as ‘excellent’ or ‘good’. Plans for the 2024 event at Manchester

Central on October 8 and 9 are well underway, with over 100 exhibitors already confirmed. The ‘super early bird’ stand rate expires on 23 February. For information on stand availability, please contact Matt Dodd on 01892 518877, or email mattdodd@step-exhibitions.com. The Call for Presentations for the

2024 conference is also now live. Please visit www.healthcare-estates.com for information on the conference, the themes for 2024, and to submit your presentation proposal.
