Steven Palmer, an IHEEM member for 38 years, received the IHEEM Lifetime Achievement Award 2022 from guest

Need for ‘inspiration at work’ To address these challenges, and as the new President, she said there were four areas where she wants to see ‘inspiration at work’, She explained: “We need to inspire the younger generation to become healthcare engineers; we need to inspire those at the forefront to ensure we get closer to achieving Net Zero carbon targets… by building and refurbishing more sustainably; we need to inspire and attract people into the NHS workforce, and, finally, we need to inspire those people involved with modernising and digitalising healthcare in terms of the delivery of care for patients, going forwards.”

She added that she is planning to be part of a cross-disciplinary group authoring new guidance on the refurbishment of existing healthcare estates, and said she would welcome further discussions with IHEEM members


on the subject. At this point she closed the meeting, firstly thanking all the exhibitors, sponsors, members, and attendees, who make Healthcare Estates possible, and then expressing her appreciation to all who had attended the 2022 AGM.
