Pete Sellars agreed to go back to him with a response following the meeting. The President moved that the Report and Financial Statements be accepted; the motion was carried unanimously.
Elections to Council Item five was to approve elections to Council. Pete Sellars advised that one Council member – Alistair Cameron – had offered himself for reappointment, and that Bill O’Reilly had agreed to stand
for The Republic of Ireland Branch. All seats were uncontested, and came with the recommendation and approval of Council. The President moved that the nominations be approved, and the motion was carried unanimously. Pete Sellars read out the list of Council members on the completion of the AGM for the next 12 months. These were as follows: President, Alison Ryan, Nigel Keery for Northern Ireland, Eddie McLaughlin for Scotland, Peter Davies for Wales, Alan Spraggon for the North East, Alistair Cameron for the North West, Alison Ryan for Yorkshire (to be replaced), James Chadwick for the East Midlands, Paul Rodgers for London, Richard Harris for the Southern Branch, Martyn Jeffery for the South West, Bill O’Reilly for the Republic of Ireland, Mark Williams for the West Midlands, and East Anglia – vacant. Auditors re-appointed Agenda item six saw a motion to re- appoint Morris Crocker as IHEEM’s auditors unanimously carried, after which, under agenda item seven, Paul Fenton handed over the Presidency and chain of office to Alison Ryan, and wished her every success for the future. The new President thanked her forerunner for his work over the preceding two years, presenting him with the gift of a Montblanc pen from the Institute and a Past-President’s Medal. Her next task was to announce the winner of the 2022 Lifetime Achievement Award. The award goes annually to a member of the Institute who has given long service to the healthcare industry, either within the NHS or the private sector, and has ‘made an exceptional contribution’ to the field of healthcare engineering or healthcare facility management.
Lifetime Achievement Award Alison Ryan explained that this year’s award would go to Steven Palmer, an IHEEM member for 38 years, who chaired the Membership and Registration committee from 2013 to 2021, and – AGM attendees heard – has been instrumental in helping the Institute retain its Engineering Council licence, working closely with head office as part of the review process. He is also IHEEM’s CPD moderator, and a reviewer, interviewer, and assessor, for members going for professional registration. He received the award from the evening’s guest speaker, England hockey player, Kate Richardson- Walsh, at the Healthcare Estates 2022 IHEEM Awards Dinner on the evening of the same day.
New President’s ‘vision’ In a brief address before the AGM closed, Alison Ryan said she believed the Institute had ‘made a positive transformation’ over the past few years, and said she was ‘exceptionally proud’ to be IHEEM’s first female President, ahead of its 80th anniversary year in 2023. Her ‘vision’ for IHEEM over the next
two years was, she said, ‘to inspire the engineering innovators of the future, so that we promote our expertise at a further international level, and build on all of the great work that’s been done over the last few years’.
