alleviate any concerns when it comes to infection control and our products. In our survey, a third of respondents (34%) felt that although thermal flushing on their site was conducted to an adequate level to meet industry standards, it was not done as regularly as it should have been, due to lack of resources. Our H64 tap – a TMV3- approved hospital mixer tap – combines thermal flush technology and tamper-proof, easy-to-access isolation for quick thermal flushing, in line with infection control measures. Preparing the tap takes seconds, and can be carried out by anyone with a Hex key, which eliminates the need for a maintenance kit or in-depth training.

The debate surrounding open outlet versus laminar flow straightener spouts has divided infection control specialists for years. In our survey, almost 60% reported that they felt open outlet spouts

were more effective as part of an infection control strategy, and just over 40% preferred a laminar flow straightener. However, until there is any conclusive evidence to support one or the other, it is left to the discretion of the competent person to decide which is the more appropriate spout solution. For this reason, we supply our H64 tap with two different flow straightener options – a fully draining open outlet, and a laminar flow straightener option – so that hospitals can choose the solution that works for them.

Time for a united approach By capturing and promoting the concerns and debates going on within the healthcare industry today, we encourage further investigation and investment into infection control for water delivery for the future. We hope that our research will form the basis of serious discussion

and real change within the healthcare sector – especially with COVID-19 serving as a stark reminder of what a lack of preparedness in infection control can lead to.
