VENTILATION AND AIR-CONDITIONING Trevor Jeffrey
Trevor Jeffrey is National Technical Service Solutions manager at Daikin Applied UK. Now in his 30th year with the company, he originally joined as a Technical support engineer, responsible for warranty and technical support on air- and water-cooled chillers to the Sales and then ‘fledgling’ service team, before joining Service as the Northern supervisor running a very small team of technicians. He subsequently became Service manager for the Midlands, North West, North East England, and Scotland, a role he held for just under 20 years, with responsibility for all service activities, and full control of ‘P&L’ and budgeting. During this period he also undertook design of bespoke systems, along with chiller replacement projects and full retrofit projects – including controls and compressor upgrades. Five years ago, he took up the position of UK Technical Service Solutions manager, a role in which he supported the Service Department with chiller upgrades, replacement, energy efficiency programmes, and bespoke solutions, and was administrator for the Daikin on Site remote monitoring system, before moving from Applied Service to Daikin Applied as a member of the newly-created Technical Team.
developments. In addition, members of the Daikin Applied UK team continue to sit on the HEVAC committee for the Health Technical Memorandum HTM 03- 01 standard. This means that not only do our solutions comply with the regulations and guidelines in place, but also that we lead the way for innovation used in the specialised ventilation equipment found in healthcare premises.
Protecting health with filtration To protect health, the latest ISO 16890 standard does allow the use of PM1-rated
filters; thus PM 2.5 and PM 10-rated filters should be used as pre-filters in most applications. DAPUK also offers high care/clean room technology solutions that deliver the sterile environments needed by critical areas like operating theatres and pharmaceutical production facilities. Its full system approach includes delivering solutions to control air pressure, temperature, moisture, and filtration systems, to protect against fine dust, skin particles, and bacteria. It is an important consideration for any HVAC specialist supplier to understand
both the operational parameters of the equipment it supplies, and the impact of system designs on indoor operating environments. The extra bonus we now have, thanks to the growing sophistication of digital systems, is that we can continue to monitor and adjust those systems throughout their operating life. This is to the ultimate benefit of those responsible for operating and maintaining healthcare buildings, and the patients and medical staff who rely on them to provide a closely controlled indoor environment.
