Construction underway on £20m Weybridge Health Facility
Construction works have begun on the £20m redevelopment of Weybridge Health Facility in Surrey. The redevelopment of the former
hospital site is funded by the Department of Health & Social Care (DHSC), NHS Property Services (NHSPS) and NHS Surrey Heartlands Integrated Care Board (ICB). The development represents one of the region’s most significant recent investments in primary and community healthcare infrastructure. To mark the start of building works, a number of stakeholders visited the site this week to see first-hand how the funding is being translated into visible progress. During the visit, stakeholders were shown the construction area and were shown the planned layout of the facility, including main access points and the zones designated for clinical and community services. Once complete, the new building
will provide a modern, integrated health hub offering a wide range of services designed to meet current and
future population needs. The Phoenix Family Practice will
relocate into the facility, which will also house maternity services, same day urgent care, diagnostics, and health and wellbeing support. A flexible first floor space will enable the NHS to adapt services over time in response to changing local demand. Simon Taylor, director estates
policy, strategy and capital projects, NHS Property Services said: “This groundbreaking event celebrates a key moment as construction begins on this £20m investment in Weybridge. “We are focused on delivering an NHS estate that is fit for the future and meets the modern health demands of communities across the country. This new neighbourhood health facility will provide more services, which can often prevent ill health, closer to people’s homes, ensuring the Ten-Year-Health-Plan goals are achieved.”
Vicky Stobbart, director of commissioning and delivery for NHS Surrey Heartlands Integrated
Care Board, commented: “This is a significant milestone for the project. The start of construction work represents years of planning and extended collaboration, where we have worked together to design a brand-new facility that will help improve the health and wellbeing of local people for generations to come.”
Health Minister Stephen Kinnock
said: “This new health centre is leading the way as a one-stop shop bringing vital services together under one roof, right on people’s doorsteps
– whether it’s a GP, maternity care, urgent care or wellbeing support. “For local people in Weybridge, this means fewer journeys, shorter waits and more coordinated support closer to home. The centre will make care simpler, faster and more convenient, with earlier diagnosis, better prevention and a more seamless patient experience. “By investing in facilities like this,
we are building an NHS that is fit for the future and designed around patients’ needs, shifting more care out of hospital and into the community.”
