‘Smart’ building management to feature in Manchester


Healthcare Estates 2024, taking place at Manchester Central on 8 and 9 October, is the only national conference and exhibition in the UK to bring together those who fund, design, build, manage, and maintain healthcare facilities. The conference addresses the critical subjects affecting the healthcare engineering and estates management sector today, and those shaping its future, with the aim of providing ideas, inspiration, and answers, for tackling those challenges. Sessions at Healthcare Estates count towards your annual CPD requirement and, once attended, can be added to your record at the touch of a button via the MyIHEEM online CPD platform. The IHEEM Conference Committee will be meeting this month to review submissions received via the 2024 Call for Presentations, with announcements on conference content expected in due course. at Healthcare Estates, and this led to a great atmosphere on the exhibition floor, and some fantastic feedback from visitors. Many said they would like to see more exhibitors with solutions for smart building management and digital transformation, and IHEEM has acted on this feedback by adding a new industry zone to the floorplan – Software and Smart Hospitals. Thought-provoking CPD at East Midlands AGM


The 2024 AGM of IHEEM’s East Midlands Branch was hosted by Glenfield Hospital, Leicester, on 4 March.


Senior Specialist Engineer at


University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, Martin Owen, opened the evening by welcoming everyone to the site and giving an insight into recent redevelopments. Branch Chair and Council Representative, James Chadwick, then gave an overview of IHEEM’s activity and achievements in 2023, before discussing the Institute’s priorities for 2024, with a focus on developing the next Five-Year Business Plan. Branches will have the opportunity to comment and feed into the business priorities to be included. He went on to explain that the East Midlands Branch conference focusing on innovation has been set for 11 September at Uttoxeter Racecourse. All committee members were re-


elected into their current posts, with Matthew Gilmore officially welcomed in as Branch Secretary for 2024. IHEEM CEO, Tania Davies, who attended, said: “Following an amazing dinner and some wonderful cakes provided by the on-site catering team, we were treated to a thought-provoking CPD presentation on transfer switching by Schneider Electric, who kindly sponsored the evening. We encourage our members to actively engage with their local branch.
