EVENT PREVIEW | PLASTICS RECYCLING ASIA

Environmental Institute, Wijarn Simachaya, explores how collaboration between public and private sectors is key to tackling plastic waste. Luis Hoffmann, the Head of Polymer Recycling

Technology at Sulzer Chemtech, then continues the theme of collaboration, this time looking inwards, as he discusses the changes needed in the waste management and chemical industries to close the plastics loop. Attendees can then break for a riverside networking lunch featuring a buffet of world foods prepared by the chefs at the Millenium Hilton. A session on recent technological progress in

food-contact packaging material. The first day will then be rounded off with a drinks reception allowing delegates and speakers to connect with each other, discussing the day’s presentations and future opportunities to collaborate. Day 2 of Plastics Recycling Asia is opened by

Gneuss’ Area Sales Manager for Germany, Niklas Moehlmann. His technical presentation will focus on the processing of post-industrial and post-con- sumer waste with an overview of how new technol- ogy is allowing the clean, fast and energy efficient extrusion of recyclate. This machinery and process- ing session then continues with a look at the ways to overcome the process limitations of current extrusion technology from Sabine Schönfeld, the Recycling Business Development Manager for Coperion. Swiss machinery company LIST then takes to the stage with a joint presentation from its Director of Business Development, Manuel Steiner, and R&D engineer, Leonard Sylla. The pair will dive into a new frontier in plastic waste management with their talk on novel processing technologies that can facilitate advanced chemical recycling.

Mechanical and chemical After a networking break, the conference will then resume with a session providing updates on the major recycling projects happening in the region. Marc Cox, the Director for Stakeholder Relations at Coca Cola Philippines will share a story of both difficulty and success as he reviews the effect of EPR in the Philippines and discusses the country’s first bottle-to-bottle recycling facility. A similarly intrigu- ing talk will follow as the President of the Thailand

36 PLASTICS RECYCLING WORLD | January/February 2024

the recycling space kicks off after lunch with an address from Kevin Dressler, the Director of Business Development and Recycling from Alterra. He offers a fresh take on pyrolysis and explores how recent advances in the upgrading of pyrolysis oil allow this technology to play an important role in managing plastic waste. Polyester and polyolefins come under the

microscope as Emir Melkic and Rolf Altepeter, the Bangkok Office Head Representative and Application Sales Manager of Erema, discuss the company’s post-consumer recycling solutions for these materials. The session is continued with an in depth review of the technologies and solutions from around the world that are progressing plastics circularity. This talk, given by Sebastian Heitkamp, the Industry Segment Manager – Plastic Additives from BASF, will also discuss how smart material selection eases the plastics recycling process. The technological progress session resumes with

a talk from Maarten Stolk, Business Developer at Ioniqa Technologies. He considers implementation through a description of the company’s partner- ships and technical solutions before providing an examination of the market factors that influence industry scaling. This is then followed by a presenta- tion on innovative additive solutions that encourage circularity from Jeroen Frederix, Market Develop- ment Manager Circular Economy at SI Group. Ana Paco, Plastics Recycling Business Development Manager for Axens, then ends the event with her exploration of how pyrolysis and glycolysis can both play a role in improving recycling rates. n Find out more about Plastics Recycling Asia taking place on 6-7 March, including a significantly reduced delegate rate for plastic recyclers and plastic processors, at the event website. Those who wish to attend both Plastics Recycling Asia and Compounding and Masterbatch Asia, taking place on 5-6 March at the same venue, can benefit from a joint-attendance discount and should contact AMI sales manager Chris Chisman for more details at chris.chisman@amiplastics.com.
