BASF claims textile recycling breakthrough

BASF and fashion group Inditex have jointly an- nounced what is said to be a breakthrough in textile-to- textile recycling with Loopamid, a circular polyamide 6 (PA6) based entirely on textile waste which Inditex has turned into a capsule jacket with all parts, including fabrics, buttons, filling, and zipper, made from the material. The fibres and materials can be recycled over multiple cycles while the material characteristics are identical to those of conventional virgin polyamide.

Ramkumar Dhruva,

President of BASF’s Mono- mers division, said: “Loopa- mid has the potential to

revolutionise the PA6 market for the better. We are in the process of scaling up our technology to serve our customers with com- mercial quantities. The capsule jacket together with Inditex is the proof that circularity is possible, and we are eager to further drive the sustainable transformation of the textile industry.” BASF is a leading

manufacturer of PA6 and its precursors, with production sites in Europe, Asia, and the US. www.basf.com www.inditex.com
