PLASTICS RECYCLING ASIA | EVENT PREVIEW Recycling know-how comes
together at AMI’s Asian event Experts on mechanical and chemical recycling will share their knowledge at AMI’s new Plastics Recycling Asia conference in Bangkok in March. We spotlight the speakers in this preview
AMI has launched Plastics Recycling Asia, a meeting ground for plastics value chain stakehold- ers that aims to address the ever growing issue of polymeric waste in the Asian region. Key industry figures will converge at the Millennium Hilton in Bangkok, Thailand on the 6 and 7 March to discuss the technological, legislative and economic factors set to affect the quantity and quality of recycled materials entering the Asian plastics market. Recently, there has been increasing interest and investment in circular plastics practices and, with the Asian region being a major producer and exporter of plastic products, this event could not come at a more critical time. Plastics Recycling Asia will explore the recent innovations and initiatives set to improve recycling rates in the coming years along with the market factors and legislative chang- es that will influence this growth. As the plastics landscape becomes more difficult to navigate, this event serves as an essential forum for recyclers, legislators, brand owners and waste management professionals to connect and share ideas. The event will open with a talk from AMI Senior
Consultant Hanne Jones, who will give an overview of the market factors that are driving development in the Asian recycling landscape. Joan Baughan,

Partner at Steptoe, will then explore a challenging hurdle to increasing recyclate use with a talk on regulations relating to recycled plastic for food-con- tact applications. The Head of Sales Recycling Solutions at Krones, Lukas Hausladen, closes out the market overview session with an address on emerg- ing markets for plastics recycling in Asia and gives details of success stories in polyolefin circularity. The next session of Day 1 will focus in on packag-
ing, kicking off with a talk from rigid packaging experts Alpla. The company’s Head of Program Management Thamrongwang Korn-eak will give an explanation of how proper life cycle analysis, thoughtful design and carbon emissions reduction can all contribute to a more sustainable system for consumer packaging. This will be followed by a talk from Kian Seah, the CEO of HHI, who will examine how digital tools are improving operations and communication in the recycling industry. Kian will share some real world examples of this approach working and provide a hopeful look to the potential future impacts of a digital revolution in recycling. The effects of industry collaboration and EPR are then discussed by Tee Guan Huat, Regional Sales Consultant for Starlinger, as he looks at how rPET has made strides in being accepted as a recycled
