– from the mould. This allows hot-runner moulds to be filled more evenly with ComoNeoMultiflow, while determining the optimal point for switching from the injection phase to the holding pressure phase. This gives users greater flexibility in their choice of sensors and control strategy. The temper- ature-based switchover function is now also available with the 5159A machine-integrated charge amplifier. “Real-time release testing cannot be implement- ed with a single product – it requires precise process data, complete documentation and reliable integration into existing production and quality processes,” said Oliver Schnerr, head of plastics at Kistler. www.kistler.com

decisions are rising. The MedRelease suite helps OEMs and contract manufacturers reduce these blind spots and establish a data foundation for every component made. Conventional systems evaluate the injection moulding process based on machine parameters such as injection pressure. While these describe machine behaviour, they do not directly reflect what happens in each cavity. Kistler measures pressure inside the cavity, which is where compo- nent quality originates, it says. The cavity pressure profile reflects the effects of the key process parameters for a better assessment of component quality. This is measured using Kistler’s 6183D cavity pressure sensor, which is 1mm in diameter. The new generation of ComoNeo processes the

captured cavity pressure data in real time and evaluates each production cycle based on defined quality criteria. ComoNeoPredict software uses this data to predict the relevant quality characteristics of each component based on models. In regulated environments, it is essential to show

that quality models operate reliably within their defined scope. Here, Optimize software supports the development, evaluation and validation of the models. The centralised fleet management system AkvisIO then consolidates process and quality data in a central location, creating traceable data for batch release, audits and deviation analyses. In this way, says Kistler, the MedRelease suite combines process monitoring, quality prediction, validation, and documentation. Depending on the application and its regulatory requirements, manu- facturers can gradually reduce conventional testing and statistical sampling after successful validation. Temperature as an additional control variable in the injection moulding process Kistler’s control algorithms can now also use temperature signals – as well as pressure signals

KraussMaffei says it has made two modifications to its ColorForm technology – which allows in- mould coating of thermoplastic components. The first is a multi-coloured mixing head, allowing colour changes to be carried out auto- matically and directly within the production process. Multiple colours are available at the mixing head simultaneously and can be selected automatically during the production process without replacing colour nozzles, changing colour modules or removing the mixing head. “With the new mixing head, we enable fully

automatic colour changes directly during the ongo- ing production process,” said René Dierkes, head of global multi-technology projects at KraussMaffei. “This provides maximum flexibility, shortens setup times and makes the production of variants significantly more cost-effective.” Until now, a colour change in ColorForm

applications has required manual intervention at the mixing head. Although the process is carried out at high speed, it still requires an interruption of the production process. The new technology eliminates this step. All required colours remain permanently connected to the mixing head. The
