Envalior and Secara have collaborated to develop circular PA6 for automotive applications that meet coming regulations. It will showcase them at Fakuma. Secara’s catalytic depolymerisation technology aims to produce high-purity, drop-in caprolactam that Envalior can use in its existing PA6 production process – eliminating the need for changes to existing manufacturing infrastructure. If successfully scaled up, this will help automotive manufacturers meet upcoming recycled content requirements under the End-of-Life Vehicles Regulation (ELVR) without affecting material performance. “With Secara, we want to explore what a
scalable, high-performance circular pathway could look like and ensure we are ready to support our customers as the ELV requirements take place,” said Christophe Cazabeau, EVP performance materials at Envalior. The results of the collaboration will be most
relevant to automotive OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers seeking scalable material solutions to ensure compliance with ELVR – which is expected to come into force later this year. It mandates that at least 15% of the plastic used in new vehicles must initially come from recycled- based sources. In addition, 20% of this recycled content must be from closed-loop sources, meaning material from end-of-life vehicles or parts removed during a vehicle’s use phase. Through its novel depolymerisation process,
Secara says it is overcoming traditional obstacles to ELV recyclability. “Our process is designed to handle large industrial mixed-waste streams containing material inclusions such as glass fibres, flame-retardants and other additives or contaminants,” said Fabian Nagel, CEO at Secara. “We selectively break up the target polymers in those waste streams and transform them into drop-in quality monomers.” The initial focus of the collaboration is PCR- derived caprolactam for PA6. This achieves a balance between cost-efficiency and caprolactam purity to deliver the same high performance as virgin PA6, say the partners.

Eurotec will show a range of engineering com- pounds at Fakuma based on more than 20 polymer families – including PA6, PA66, PPA, PBT, PP and PC/ABS. These are aimed at industries including automotive (interior, exterior and under-the-hood), e-mobility (thermal management, high-voltage connectors and battery management) and indus- trial applications. They include high-strength and reinforced
grades for metal replacement, impact-modified, high-heat-resistant, oil- and hydrolysis-stabilised, flame-retardant, wear-resistant, conductive, UV-resistant and mould-in coloured solutions. At the Eurotec booth, visitors will be able to
explore real application samples from different industries and discuss both existing and future projects directly with our technical team. Eurotec will also showcase its growing Eco
portfolio of materials – based on post-indus- trial and post-consumer recycled PA, PC/ ABS, PP, PBT and PET – that combine a reduced carbon footprint with proper- ties close to virgin materials. Its Tecomid Eco series meets the
needs of the industry and contributes to more economical and environmentally friendly production processes, it says. Tecomid Eco NB43 GR30 BK400 CE M25I is 30% glass fibre reinforced with 25% recycled content, It was developed for outer door handle core applications and has received design validation from an OEM. Combining good surface quality and mechanical strength, it offers a sustainable solution without compromising the performance and aesthetic needs. Another grade, Tecomid Eco NB43 GR30 BK012
HS M65I, contains 65% recycled PA6 and 30% glass fibre reinforcement and was developed for structural and visible parts. With a carbon footprint up to 80% lower, it is currently used in sunroof frame applications.

Kistler says its MedRelease Suite – on show at Fakuma – includes precision mould cavity pressure sensors, the ComoNeo process monitoring system, model-based quality predictions and the AkvisIO data management platform. These work together to provide complete, auditable quality documenta- tion at component level. Statistical process control is a challenge for machinery manufacturers in the medical technol- ogy sector. Discrepancies in individual compo- nents may go unnoticed, while requirements for traceability, data integrity, and complete release
