FAKUMA | SHOW REVIEW

Fakuma 2024: highlights from Friedrichshafen

Although visitor numbers declined at this year’s Fakuma, the show hosted more exhibitors than in 2023 – with a greater percentage of them coming from abroad

The Fakuma exhibition – a mainstay of the injection moulding industry – took place in Friedrichshafen, Germany in October. It was the show’s 29th

edition.

While the number of exhibitors rose this year, visitor numbers were down. PE Schall, which organises the show, says the number of exhibitors rose 3% to 1,639 compared to 2023 – but attend- ance fell 7% to around 36,700 visitors. At the same time, Fakuma is becoming increas- ingly international, with a foreign exhibitor share of 47.5% (up from 44% in 2023). Of the 1,639 exhibi- tors, 170 came from China, 142 from Italy, 81 from Switzerland, 77 from Austria and 51 from Turkey. With next year being a K year, Fakuma takes a

break in 2025 – and returns on 12-16 October 2026. On the following pages, you can find a selection

of highlights from this year’s show. https://www.fakuma-messe.de/en

BASF offers a portfolio of materials – including PSU, PESU and PPSU – to make components used in water electrolyzers – which are used to produce green hydrogen. Its Ultrason grades, which are used for frames, gaskets and separator mem- branes, were on show at Fakuma. Ultrason is suited for metal replacement in various components of alkaline water (AWE), proton exchange membrane (PEM) and anionic electrolyte membrane (AEM) electrolyzers. The amorphous polymer shows high temperature and chemical resistance. Its temperature-independent mechani- cal properties make it suitable for current (90°C) and future (> 120°C) electrolyzers, says BASF. It says that its understanding of complex injec- tion moulding applications and membrane casting helps customers upscale electrolyzer technology. “If you want to develop parts for water electro-
