New Jokey rigid containers plant in Spain is on schedule

Packaging injection moulder Jokey Group is forging ahead with a new €12m facility in Spain. Construction work at Jokey Treplás’ facility in Murcia began in February and should still be complet- ed in time to open in early 2021 despite the Covid-19 pandemic, Jokey said. The current Jokey Treplás

plant at Molina de Segura is said to be “bursting at the seams”, with neither enough capacity for the planned production of standard containers for the domestic market, nor space for the

Car audio and seat partnership

Two German specialists in automotive components, Grammer Group and Harman International Industries, have agreed on a long-term cooperation in concepts and products for upgrading vehicle interiors. In particular, they will work on the integra- tion of audio systems into headrests to offer indi- vidual programming for each passenger. The first concepts are to be presented in spring 2021. The agreement was

spurred by the trend towards new drive technologies, particularly autonomous driving. www.grammer.com www.harman.com

large injection moulding machines required for this purpose. For this reason, Jokey intends to replace it with the new facility, 15 km away. The plant will incorporate production halls of 10,000

m². These are twice as large as the current ones and “significantly higher”, enabling 50 new machines to fit in, according to Vicente Hernández, Managing Director at Jokey Treplás. “The new facilities will

enable us to achieve our growth targets. They are even designed to meet the future requirements of our continued growth. In the long term, this will enable us to double our production capacity,” he added. The site will be able to

make the full Jokey range of rigid containers. It is located in a newly developed industrial area, close to the site of the new Murcia railway station on the planned Madrid-East Coast high-speed line. www.jokey.com

gies, Leis-Holding and the two founders and managing directors of Gindumac, Janek Andre and Benedikt Ruf, will

all retain minority shares. Andre and Ruf will remain in position and will continue to drive the company’s growth. The company plans to

expand its locations, hire new employees and recruit more sales representatives in order to double the number of machines on offer. www.gindumac.com

EcoCore licence deal agreed

Coffee and plastic packag- ing group Miko Pac has signed an agreement to make low-cost reusable and recyclable cups for food service providers using Bockatech’s EcoCore technology. EcoCore, which is optimised for use with PP supplied by Borealis, creates packaging with skin-foam- skin walls, which it says

increases strength, lowers material use and improves thermal protection. Miko Pac will initially

produce 250 and 430 ml cups, with or without in-mould labels for full- colour branding. Both can also be provided with PP single-use or reusable lids, to facilitate recycling. The two types will both be

available in December. According to Bockatech,

reusable cups made with EcoCore foaming technology have shown a 20-30% reduction in CO2

equivalent

after two uses, and 80-85%, when compared with single-use, dual-wall lined PE and PLA compostable paper cups. www.bockatech.com
