Simona moves ahead after strong sales in sheet division
Simona, the German extruder of pipe and sheet, recorded a small increase in sales last year – following a strong performance in its semi-fin- ished products division. The company grew by
nearly 2% last year, taking sales to nearly €377m ($412m). Profitability (EBIT) rose by almost 13% to exceed €30m. It has since posted a Q1 sales rise of 11% in 2017. “Fiscal 2016 was a good
year for Simona – driven by a dynamic performance in the United States and improved
profitability within our semi-finished products business in Europe,” said Wolfgang Moyses, CEO. Sales in the semi-finished and finished products division rose by 5% to reach €290m Sales in the US – Simona’s
second-largest region – in- creased by 10% to exceed €90m. Sales in Europe fell 1.5% to €257m, due mainly to a poor performance in the pipes and fittings – which declined by nearly 8% to around €77m. The division was adversely affected by sluggish

infrastructure business, especially in the second half of the year, said the company. This business was affected
by the absence of suitable projects, especially within the district heating and lignite markets in Europe, said Simona – adding that sales relating to industrial piping systems rose slightly. “Our solid bottom-line
result was attributable mainly to strong earnings in the US, improved profitability within our semi-finished products business in Europe and satisfactory profit from pipes and fittings – despite a decline in revenue,” said Moyses. ❙
