Reel life: latest in film winders
Advances in slitter-rewinders include a new technology centre, a product aimed at battery separator film, and a new way to wind polymer bags with the open end first
The need for high-quality film products, cut accu- rately and produced quickly, relies on the latest slitting-rewinding technology. Goebel IMS has launched its Interslit BSF, a specialised slitter-rewinder that can handle ultra-sensitive materials including battery separator films based on wet-processed bi-oriented polyeth- ylene (BOPE). Battery separator films (BSFs) are a critical component in lithium-ion batteries – a market that is projected to expand quickly in future due to increased demand for electric vehicles (EVs). Interslit BSF is equipped with automation in
order to optimise the slitting/rewinding process – raising productivity while cutting downtime. It has a working width of up to 7000mm, a slitting speed of up to 300 m/min, and features including a shaftless unwinder (for unwind diameter up to 1000 mm) and a rewind diameter up to 450 mm. The company has tailored the machine to meet the specific needs of the battery industry. The slitter offers different design options, including a com- pact version with an integrated unwinder or a bridge design that accommodates web cleaning and inspection. production and consistent, high-quality output. Its configuration enables precise processing of various film types and their specific requirements, especially those considered ultra-sensitive. Its efficiency and reliability contribute to cost-effec- tiveness and quality, it says. In addition, the company recently installed two Monoslit 9000 BOPP slitter-rewinders at Guang- dong Decro Film New Materials in China. The machines have a 1200 m/min speed and
can process special kinds of BOPP film. They were installed on two new BOPP lines with a working width of 8.7m. “We always require sophisticated high-end equipment to meet our customers’ demands,” said He Wenjun, vice president of Guangdong Decro. “The performance of the machines is exceeding our expectations – and the second line was installed and operating in record time.” The company has three manufacturing facilities covering more than 187,000 sq m. It runs seven advanced BOPP lines and two coating lines.
