company. Blue pipe has high temperature capacity and pressure resistance and is also joined using heat fusion.

September 2020 after a five-month construction period. Since then, Bayernwerk has completed more construction projects involving more than 30km of high-pressure HexelOne SLM pipe.

Water delivery PE100 pipes from Simona have been used in a municipality in southern Germany – which had been struggling to cope with groundwater shortages. At the same time, more water was needed due to the development of services for new residential areas. To guarantee the supply of clean drinking water, new drinking water wells had been built in recent years. The wells were connected to the existing water supply network using Simona’s PE 100 RC-Line drinking-water pipes, over a length of 9km. The material ensures high flexibility, light weight and high stress crack resistance. The pipes were laid using the trenchless torpedo ploughing method – a fast, economical way of laying new plastic pipes that causes minimal interference with the ground. The pipes have SVGW and DVGW approvals, among others. They are easy to maintain and allow trouble-free sustainment of network operation, says Simona.

PP onboard Aquatherm says that two of its polypropylene- based pipes have been used onboard a new research ship built in China. The ‘Snow Dragon 2’, built at the Jiang Nan

shipyard, will be used for Antarctic expeditions. It uses both green pipe – for potable water – and blue pipe, for the ship’s grey and black water system. Both types of pipe were also used to replace metal pipes during the renovation of its sister ship ‘Snow Dragon 1’. Green pipe is made of corrosion-resistant, chemically inert polypropylene, and is aimed at potable water applications. It is joined using heat fusion, which eliminates the hazards of welding and creates virtually leak-free connections, says the

Chlorine resistance Borealis says it has received the highest chlorine resistance accreditation for its HE1878E-C2 grade of HDPE – which is tailored for PEX production. The company says that the material – which has now achieved a Class 5 listing – provides end-users with more peace of mind as it meets the higher requirements of resistance to disinfectants in hot- and cold-water pipe applications. The new accreditation complies with the ASTM F876 standard for PE crosslinked pipes, it says. The material offers high temperature resistance and flexibility, and low creep. Its stabilisation package also opens it up for use in certain industrial applications. Borealis adds that the material increases efficien-

cy by reducing production steps, requiring the addition of peroxide only and minimising the risk of additive dosing errors. Also, it removes the need for separate additive purchasing and stockholding and improves safety through minimised handling.

PP addition British Columbia, in Canada, has added thermo- plastic polypropylene (PP) pipe to a list of ap- proved products for use in highway, culvert and other infrastructure projects. Pipe manufacturer Advanced Drainage

Systems (ADS) says that its SaniTite PP pipe was recently approved for addition to the list, called the Master Municipal Construction Documents (MMCD). ADS says the update provides British Columbia with a vetted standard that can be readily integrated into a specification, a Request for Quotation (RFQ) or a system design plan. “We are pleased that SaniTite HP pipe was unanimously approved and is now part of the
