MEDICAL TUBING | MATERIALS
line based on the customer’s needs, taking into account the occupied ground volume, with innovative solutions aimed at reducing the size but maintaining the same production capacity. It is based on a twin-screw extruder from the
Nextmover MD 75/24 series, which has a specially designed stainless-steel head. The cooling and cali- bration tanks are designed with a unique idler system to reduce overall dimensions. In particular, ad-hoc idler systems allow a threefold increase in the time the tube remains under water – ensuring greater efficiency and extrusion speed. Here, compliance with tolerances – which are very tight in the medical sector – is guaranteed by a detection system that measures a number of parameters, including diameter and ovality. Another feature is the drive unit, which has a
control panel that – when fitted with the detection system – displays speed, measurement data and tolerances on the tube and its alarm systems. In addition, brushless motors help ensure greater pulling accuracy – for complete control of tube tension. Two accessories complete the line: the quick cutting system; and the automatic winders, whose speed is precisely controlled in the winding process.
UHMW-PE for pipe Materials distributor Dreyplas has added Mitsui Chemicals’ Lubmer L5000 – which can be used to extrude pipes, hoses and profiles – to its portfolio. One of the first users is Novoplast Schlauchtech-
nik, which has developed a patented process to make hoses from Lubmer L5000 as a continuous reel product. Known as PE Ultra, the hoses are used in medical and other applications. Lubmer LS4140, a blend based on chemically coupled PA6 and UHMW-PE components, is suitable for similar applications requiring elevated temperature resistance. Extruded products made from these grades combine flexibility and impact strength at low temperatures down to –200°C, high chemical resistance and good tribological properties on a par with conventional UHMW-PE – which can only be machined.
