Profiles 2017 | event preview

As building materials once again come under the scrutiny of regulators, we preview the challenges and developments for profiles that will be discussed in AMI’s Profiles 2017 conference

Looking ahead to the Profiles 2017 conference

Extruded profiles in construction applications are a well established market for the plastics industry. In the past two decades, the PVC profile sector has also been notable in successfully rising to the sustainability challenge and meeting growing demands in regulation. But there continues to be plenty of development in both market and technical terms that is taking place in the plastics profiles industry. Recent events have also brought materials and fire retardance in cladding under the scrutiny of regulators. AMI’s Profiles 2017 conference, which is taking place on 19-20 September 2017 at the Maritim Hotel in Cologne, Germany, will focus on plastics profiles for construction applications, and will examine develop- ments in the market, materials technology, production techniques, design, and testing and standards. On the programme are leading technical experts who will speak about advances in additives and PVC compounds, reinforcement for windows, stabilisation, impact modification and colouring challenges. In addition, there will be presentations on innovative processing technologies for increasing productivity and improving product quality.

Panel of experts The Profiles 2017 conference will start with an expert panel discussion that will explore market trends in construction profiles. Among the panellists will be Dr. Stefan Huck, Head of R&D Materials at leading profile producer Profine in Germany, and Gerald Feigenbutz, Managing Director at the European PVC Window Profiles and related Building Products Association (EPPA) in Belgium. Feigenbutz will then make a presentation on the controlled loop recycling of used PVC windows, and how this approach can contribute to

the European Commission’s Circular Economy plans. This session will also have a review of recent European regulatory developments and their implications for PVC profiles, which will be given by Claudio Mereu, Joint Managing Partner at law firm Fieldfisher based in Belgium. The third session of the conference will look at how

companies are enhancing the performance of plastics profiles. Claudine Bloyaert, Technical Marketing & Development, Inovyn Belgium will describe the company’s new technology to reinforce profiles with glass fibre tapes or rods and the market advantage this
