Iranian plastics set for post-sanction growth

The easing of economic sanctions against Iran could lead to healthy growth in its plastics processing industry, according to Applied Market Information (AMI). AMI, the publisher of Pipe & , has published
its first Database of Plastics Processors in Iran, providing information on more than 300 processing sites in the country. It says that many compa-
nies have been doing the groundwork for economic expansion since 2015. Iran has a population of
more than 80 million people and improving GDP growth. It is the second largest regional market for polymers as a whole – after Turkey – at just over 3m tonnes/year, and the second largest for engineering thermoplastics. It also has strong domestic construction, rigid packaging and automo-

tive markets. AMI reports that building
and infrastructure accounts for 23% of polymer demand in Iran, and is expected to show strong growth over the next five years.
“HDPE shows the fastest
growth rate of any Middle Eastern country, driven in large part by pipe extrusion
– where demand is expected to nearly double in the next five years,” said the report. AMI adds that vehicle
construction will grow strongly from its current annual capacity of about 1m. The sector accounts for only 2% of polymer demand in Iran at present, but around 10% of GDP. ❙

New pipe plant for Tehran
A new polyethylene pipe plant has opened near the Iranian capital Tehran, according to a news report in the local Financial Tribune.
The plant, in Salarieh
Industrial Park in Varamin county, is owned by Mohammadian Oil & Gas Development & Engineer- ing. It will produce single- and double-walled corru- gated pressure pipe, and steel spiral reinforced pipe. The output capacity is 750kg/hour of pipe. The cost of the plant was 300bn Rials (around US$8m), said the report. Industry minister Mohammadreza Nematza- deh, who opened the plant, said the pipe would be used to supply water from treatment plants to local farms.
Real flexibility is: Building extruders according to requirement
• with top quality components • in any shape or arrangements • for any polymer • for low and high output • within short delivery • for low budget
