An air intake manifold part
produced using Solvay’s
Sinterline
Technyl SLS powders
to adapt or launch new equipment for higher melting point polymers as there is some level of uncertainty regarding the size of the future business. “As a leading polymer
producer for the injection moulding process, we have decided to go for a market top-down approach in the value chain. [Customers are] increasing their willingness to adapt and work with our specialty material. As a result, we are getting more and more positive feedback and customer interest regarding the properties of parts made with our Sinterline Technyl PA6 powders.” Another polyamide specialist, Arkema, offers two ranges of fi ne polyamide powders that are said to deliver excellent mechanical properties for SLS.
Data from Solvay comparing its 40% glass-bead- reinforced Sinterline PA with 30% glass-bead- reinforced and 20% glass-fi bre- reinforced
injection moulding grades
Orgasol Invent Smooth provides a high-quality smooth fi nish and high detail; Rilsan Invent Natural, which is 100% based on renewable sources, can be used to create parts with very good mechanical properties.
Arkema is also working to develop a range
of Kepstan polyetherketoneketone (PEKK) powders for laser sintering. PEKK parts will
exhibit extreme toughness, the company says.
